Should I switch from a Non-O retirement visa to a DTV or use a tourist visa for my stay in Thailand?

Hey guys, now that things are getting real, I wanted to get some feedback. We come to Thailand 6 November on a Tourist Visa. We’ll be returning to the States in February for several months.

My wife and I plan to apply for the DTV in early January after having the required funds in one account for October, November, and December.

I previously applied for a retirement visa but haven’t canceled it.

I’m wondering whether it’s better to let that go through and then switch to the DTV, or cancel it, enter under the visa exemption program, and extend our stay until February.

Any thoughts on which approach makes the most sense?
Summary so far
The user is seeking advice on their visa options in Thailand. They plan to arrive on a Tourist Visa and have previously applied for a Non-O retirement visa, which they haven't canceled. They are considering whether to let the retirement visa go through or cancel it and apply for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) while staying till February. Comments highlight confusion about the application process and the requirement that the DTV must be applied for in the applicant's passport country, as well as concerns about visa eligibility and financial requirements.

.

1. You apply for a Non O retirement visa....is this correct?

2. You apply online for a 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa too. Is this correct?

3. You plan to dump the Non O retirement visa as you will apply for a DTV. Is this correct?

Oh you won't get a bank account holding a tourist or DTV visa

From reading your post, you are confusing one very important detail. You are here from Nov until Feb, but plan on applying for your dtv in January. What you might be missing is as of September 1st you can only apply for the dtv in your passport country, or the country you have official residency in, and you don't have that. In the long run it's much better to have the type O extension.

You’ll both need the 500k in each of your names and if you applied for the non-o while you have an active tourist visa it will be denied

A bit confusing. Why did you apply for a Non-O visa if you're planning to come on a tourist visa? If you get the visa I'd just use it for this trip as you'll get stamped in for 90 days and not have to worry about getting an extension of stay.

If you don't get before you travel and it gets issued later you'll need to cancel it before you can apply for a DTV
