Should I apply as a freelancer or remote employee while running my NZ company from Thailand?

Hi, we own a small company in NZ and now hire a management company to take care of the day to day running of the business, we get regular reports and become involved if there are any large financial decisions to be made etc or problems.

We get a weekly payment and meet all the financial requirements. Has anyone else applied in a similar situation and would it be a free lancer or a remote employee? Heading to Laos on the way to Thailand later this year so will apply there

Thanks for any advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is seeking advice on whether to apply for a visa as a freelancer or a remote employee while managing their New Zealand company from Thailand. They mention their business setups, like hiring a management company and receiving weekly payments. In the comments, contributors suggest that the visa application depends on how the situation is presented, and recommend writing employment contracts that clarify their right to work remotely from Thailand.

Mainly depends on how you present it - as John said - follow the online instructions and put info together based on that. Assuming you're still in NZ why not apply there. I did similar through Australia and no problems.

If you own the company write yourselves employment contracts and apply as employees. Make sure the contract gives you the right to work remotely from Thailand and states that you can't work with any Thai entities or clients inside Thailand

Who become the company owners if you both become free lance employees?
