Is Tricare US Military Medical Insurance accepted for OA Visa?

Are there any US Military Retirees who recently applied and received the OA Visa? I need to confirm if Tricare Insurance is accepted, based on the requirements for the OA Visa of 300,000 THB or $100k per policy year. Would love hear back from my fellow retiree’s. Thanks
Answer summary
The consensus in the community is that Tricare US Military Medical Insurance is not accepted for the OA Visa in Thailand, which requires health insurance from a Thai insurance provider that meets specific requirements (300,000 THB or $100,000 coverage). Several commenters reported that Tricare will not be listed among acceptable insurances, and advice was given to consider purchasing a policy from providers recognized by Thai immigration. While some retirees use Tricare for healthcare in Thailand, they often face reimbursement challenges and are encouraged to maintain adequate funds for medical emergencies.

Tricare is NOT acceptable as health insurance for the visa and if you do come to TL and receive medical care, you'll pay out of pocket and YOU will need to file your claim with Tricare for reimbursement. FYI, if all of your paperwork from the doctor / hospital is in order, then I've found the typical time to be about 2-4 weeks to have the money show up in your US bank account. One more FYI, the "O" visa with a 12 month extension of stay based on retirement or marriage to a Thai national, does not require health insurance. However, recommend you have access to a minimum of $50K USD to pay for a medical emergency.

No. For an O-A Visa, you must pay for insurance from a Thai insurance company. The immigration website has a list of the approved insurance providers they will accept.

John Robert Kane What about the 10-yr LTR Wealthy pensioners Visa? Will Tricare Overseas suffice for this?

The only insurance that I could use from America over there was Blue Cross and Blue shield they accepted the card when I showed it to them but I think most insurances overseas are difficult I don't know if this is helpful information try to get the best quote you can when you're over there whatever is required

You would think it's ok but it will not be on Thailand approved insurance list. Just apply non o. Tricare and VA foreign policy works here just fine. Recently Bangkok hospital signed a contract with VA as primary hospital to use. I use it all the time.

Matthew Plymale that’s at only some branches from what I have experienced

The other ones you have to still do the remittance of receipts and wait the 150-250 days for VA to reimburse

Potpong_Life I carry everything on a flash drive with me. Never an issue at Bangkok hospital but if you go outside of network then it's a pain in the ass. About a year and half ago the VA and Bangkok hospital signed a new contract. No payment up front but have everything.. I was just in hospital in udon Thani last week and since I am in the system it's so easy. They paid for my radiation therapy. This saves VA so much rather treatment in US and your not going to wait month and no deductible like tricare

Can you get someone from Tricare to sign the required form? If yes, then it should be accepted. If not, then it won't be accepted. It's almost impossible to get any insurance in the US to sign a form indicating coverage.
