Incase this is useful for others.

We entered Thailand for the first time yesterday with our DTV visas.

It was 5 months since approval and there was no problem.

We had to change our travel plans from within the 3 month window.

The rules stated you must enter within 3 months of approval.

Just in case anyone was in the same boat.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience entering Thailand for the first time with a DTV visa, noting that it had been 5 months since approval without any issues. They referenced a supposed 3-month entry rule linked to visa approval, but multiple comments clarified that there is actually a 5-year validity for the DTV visa. Some comments suggested that the 3-month guideline could be related to embassy practices rather than official rules, encouraging applicants to apply only if planning to enter within that timeframe.

The rule you have identified is more than likely the Embassy's way of avoiding an avalanche of premature applications.. meaning they only want you to apply if you are intending to travel within 3 months.. in essence prioritising their resource to the most urgent cases.. however the visa isn't granted on the condition that you do travel on the date you stated.. after all, situations change and people cannot always fulfil their intended schedule.. this rule simply deters people from applying too early and creating a back log of applications.

most visas that embassy can issue also valid 3 months, and have this date in "valid till". But DTV is valid for 5 years.

There's a 3 month rule, yes, but it's NOT for the DTV, rather for other visas, including the single entry and multi entry tourists visas (for people from countries which aren't elegible for the visa exemption entry).

It's not a rule, as you've proven. You get 5 years to use the visa.

sure, it's something I was concerned about as it stated that rule on my application. I'm just simply sharing that it wasn't a problem that the first entry was 5 months after approval

I applied through the UK Thai embassy and you had to give your date of arrival in Thailand and it had to be within 3 months of your visa being approved.

Other embassy's may vary

that exactly is the rule, you should not apply more than 3 months before your INTENDED travel date, then they might just cancel the application.

But nobody forces you to travel exactly on the intended date.

There's no 3 month rule. You have 5 years to use your visa.

Visa should be used in the period, mentioned on the visa. Nothing more.v

It's strange, a non-existent rule really doesn't exist

I don’t believe there was any rule stating this. Some embassies may have stated that was the case but it’s a 5 year visa. You have to use it within that time.
