Marriage Visa: Is it required that the 400K Baht needs to be sent from a foreign bank, and do you need a certificate from bank that the money has been transferred from a foreign account?

How long do I need to wait before I can spend this 400K Baht "after" I've already got the 1 year extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
For obtaining a Thai marriage visa or extension, it is not necessary for the 400,000 Baht to be transferred from a foreign bank; domestic transfers are acceptable. The funds must be held in a Thai bank account for a minimum of two months prior to applying for the extension. Immediately after receiving the extension, the money can be accessed, although one should maintain the required amount in the account during the visa period and for renewals.

400,000 ??? For what

It basically has to stay in there for the length of your marriage visa and all renewals…good luck

not true, only needs to be in an account 2 months before an extension, it can be fully withdrawn and replaced 2 months before the next extension.

let’s be honest…95% of the people in the world don’t have a $2,000 emergency fund…so if you’re in that 95% then yes it needs to be in there forever…most retirees and married people are living the skint life over here knowing that the money they can’t touch is their life savings and if they touch it they won’t get the extension..:so please tell me more

You have a point there. This visa arrangement would be a very bad idea for anyone on a razor's edge budget (i.e., people who don't have tens of thousands of dollars in reserve at all times) because they will inevitably start spending down the 400,000 baht to live, and if they don't have a way to replace everything they've spent, when the next time comes to prove 400K in the bank, they've got a huge problem. And it would be ten times worse because they'd be married, and now they've got a wife depending on them and they'd be risking getting deported.

now you understand that once it’s in there don’t ever touch it

I went through this and was advised to have a bit more if I could, though it was a few years ago. But also getting a stamped certificate from the bank helps too, I think. Good luck. And putting for three months also helps. Basically do what they want but if you can go further back or have more or certify more strongly than that’s good.

for the application to the 90-days visa outside or inside Thailand, the money just needs to sit in the account. For the application to the "1-year extension of stay based on being married to a Thai wife", on the day you apply you need the bank statement that the money has been in the account since 2 months. There is no requirement to show any proof of origin

Not required to show international transfer for marriage visa or extension. But it needs to be in your bank for 2 full months before applying for an extension.

You can use the money as soon as you finish the "under consideration" period and get the full extension stamp in your passport.

So can my wife just send me 400K into my Thai Bank account from her Thai bank account, 2 months before extension? And I can transfer that money back to her after I receive the 1 year extension, right?
