Is it easy to obtain Retirement Visa Thailand? How You’re Experienced? How I started?
Answer summary
The ease of obtaining a Retirement Visa in Thailand seems to vary based on personal experience. Some expats recommend seeking professional assistance, especially for first-timers, due to the changing rules and the importance of proper documentation. Others have successfully completed the process independently, citing straightforward requirements if one has the necessary funds deposited in a Thai bank account. Experiences shared include quick approvals, some taking only a few days, while others emphasize the importance of research and being well-prepared for a smooth application.

Get professional assistance for first year. Get it when you arrive. Don’t do like me.

Here they love admin documents and rules change.

Many use agents, however, no need to pay someone for something that is not complicated. I do my own with money deposited monthly from overseas into my K bank account. My yearly renewal costs 1900 baht, and 300 baht for the bank documents. The last renewal I did took an hour and a half, including stopping at the bank on the way to immigration.

Go to an agency and they do everything for you including sponsoring the financial requirements in your thai bank account so you don't need to tie your own money up.🙂

The Visa is the easiest part of the overall process.

Starting a new life in Thailand requires more preparation and the right mindset.

Watch and read as many educational resources before making up your mind.

If you have everything in order

Better to get the VISA from your home country then come to Thailand. That's how most people do it and how Thai Immigration would like you to do it also.

We were about to apply for non O visa but then realised the tax situation there. So we will probably do the DTV and stay 178 days annually

Make it in Thai embassy in your country. No need Thai and account no deposit, just show that you have equivalent of 800.000 THB. Apply online, get one year evisa and can stay 2 years with one trip out before first year ends.

only for a Non-OA visa, the Non-O based on being over 50 doesn't require any of these things

Paul Anthony McDermott yes, of course, and with their sworn translations to english, at least the required them in my case. All required documents are listed on their website. He will find it. 😊

The best about this retirement visa is that you can stay 2 years with just one trip few days before it expires.

you first need to decide which of the 4 visas all referred to as retirement visas you want to apply for and the website is where you can get that information. There's a Non-O, Non-OA, Non-OX and LTR Wealthy Pensioner. The Non-O is by far the most common, the LTR is by far the best if you qualify
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
First you need to decide which retirement visa you want to get. The non-O is the most popular, but you must deposit 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account.
Robert **********
Robert **********
Stuart Chiverton there is a catch you cant get a Thai Bank acc with out a non_o or retirement visa and you cant get the visa with out the Thai bank acc
Stuart ***********
Stuart ***********
Robert Nitschke it's not a catch Robert. The non-O retirement visa is obtained before entering Thailand online from the ThaiEmbassy in your country. You are then able to open a bank account, deposit 800,000 baht and after 2 months apply for a 12 month extension of stay.

You don't need the 800,000 Baht to get the VISA, but you will need the 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank account to get the extension if you are going to get a NON- O VISA

@Vagn ************
I think the Denmark Embassy in Thailand might still provide the income affidavit, so you might be okay, but I would double check. I am from the UK and that was not an option for me, so I had to deposit the 800,000 baht for the first year extension of stay. I now use proof from my bank of 12 monthly 65,000 + baht international transfers.
Kim ***********
Kim ***********

Stuart Chiverton so actually the most option are deposit

the Indonesia Embassy will not provide the income affidavit, so their only option for the first year would be 800,000 baht in a Thai account.
