Hi everyone, I need advice.

I’m a Saudi citizen legally married to a Thai citizen, and I have obtained the Kor Ror 22 document.

I want to convert my tourist visa to a Non-O marriage visa, but Thai Immigration and several visa agencies have told me that I must deposit 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account.

Unfortunately, I don’t have that amount. I work remotely for a Saudi company and earn around SAR 5,000 per month, approximately 40,000 THB.

Is there any legal way to convert my visa to a Non-O marriage visa from within Thailand using my monthly salary instead of the 400,000 THB bank deposit?

Has anyone successfully done this in Thailand? I would really appreciate advice based on personal experience.

Thank you!
Answer summary
A Saudi citizen, married to a Thai national, seeks advice on converting a tourist visa to a Non-O marriage visa without the required 400,000 THB bank deposit. Responses suggest that while the deposit is necessary for the first extension, using income for future extensions could be an option. They also recommend considering agents for assistance, applying for a 90-day Non-O visa at a consulate, and highlight the need for legal remote work on the appropriate visa.

You need to increase your income. 40,000 a month is enough for food and rent but it is going to go fast, if you are supporting a family. Don't forget to get yourself medical insurance. All this might mean working another job back home and starting some kind of savings. Think about emergencies..not just survival.

You need 400,000 for the first year's extension. The second year you can use the income method. You would need to begin putting 40,000 per month into a Thai bank account each month starting with the same month that your initial extension is granted and every month thereafter but check those dates with your local immigration office.

DTV could be another good option, can you apply for that? There are different tracks.

Even a remote work visa requires a financial deposit, and that’s exactly the problem I’m facing. 🥲

I think your best way out of this is agents, around Pattaya or Bangkok, little pricy though when it comes to marriage visa ( compared to retirement) but a good one would get it sorted easily. No headaches at all.

Beware of scammers. There are a bunch of trusted agents around but also a lot of scammers waiting for situations like yours

Hello.

Required Financial Conditions

For an annual extension with Thai immigration, you must meet one of the following two criteria:

• A monthly income of at least 40,000 THB

• OR a bank balance of at least 400,000 THB held in a Thai bank account for a required period of time.

Saad Alkhamees the money only has to be in your bank account for two months before you apply, and then it's best to wait the extra under consideration period until you get your stamp. It's not to expensive to just borrow the money, as there is no requirement on where it comes from into your bank account. And it doesn't have to stay there after you get your one year extension.

Saad Alkhamees genuine question: don’t you receive any support from the government? I had a false idea that all citizens were entitled to some sort of compensation from the state

Yes, you have to deposit 400,000 baht to live here, can you borrow it from a family member for a yr ?

Jeff Hoffmeister No, you don't 'have' to deposit that amount, it can also be measured by a monthly income.

Seismic Shift No, the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Bangkok does not issue income certificates or affidavits to verify personal foreign income for the 40,000 THB monthly income requirement of the Thai marriage visa You need to use the 400kBTH method, after a year After sending a year your monthly salary to the THAI bank , you can use the Tai bank certificates to use the monthly method, check carefully with your immigration officer and bank what certificates and be sure the bank will provide them

Ronny Liekens I contacted the embassy today, and they informed me that they issue income certificates. The staff member I spoke with was Thai, so I’m not sure if the information is accurate, but I will visit the embassy again to confirm

Seismic Shift not to start, first year you have to have the 400,000 in a bank account to get your marriage extension

You would need to leave Thailand and apply for a 90 day Non-O visa based on marriage at a nearby consulate. You would need to show a minimum income of 40k baht per month. However you will encounter the same problem when you return to Thailand as for the 12 month extension of stay you would also need 400k baht in a Thai bank account.

Additionally this is the wrong visa, if you want to work remotely from Thailand you can't legally do so on a marriage visa, you need a DTV for that. (Same applies to a tourist visa)

Hi John, I thought when you are on a non o and/or extension based on mariage, you could get a work permit ? Or is this not valid/possible for remote work.

Thanks 🙏 (Just try to learn 🙅🏼‍♂️)

you can't get a work permit if you work for an entity that doesn't exist in Thailand. It is possible to get a work permit if you work remotely for a Thai entity
