Thank you for this excellent platform for discussion on Thai visas and all things Thai. I have a lot of questions as we plan our move to Bangkok (probably) next year. Here's my first one. I have both American and UK passports, which would be the better one to use for a retirement visa application in Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the choice between using an American or a UK passport for applying for a retirement visa in Thailand. Users agree that there is no significant difference in the application process for the retirement visa using either passport. However, the American passport may offer advantages in certain business aspects. Additionally, aspects of pension payments for both nationalities are mentioned, highlighting that the UK system does not provide cost of living increments, while the American system reportedly pays directly into Thai banks.

UK will pay your pensions into a bank in Thailand but you won't get any increments.

OK, thank you. Sadly, I don't know what increments are. The Americans will also pay directly to a Thai bank, I'm told. If you want to advise me the pros and cons of both, it would be very much appreciated. It's all knowledge that I need to gather.

Increments are raises, cost of living raises etc.

Yes, of course. Any more pros and cons?

Pros and cons for both.

For retirement visa there's no difference. For opening a company the American one has lots of advantages

Thank you, but just retiring. 😃

Absolutely no difference to using an American or UK passport. Both embassies don’t offer the option of income affidavit so you’d need 800k in a Thai bank to do so.
