How strict is the 6-month passport validity rule for entering Thailand?

I’d really recommend getting a new passport. Pay for the quick service.

Pay for peace of mind.

The stress of worrying it might go wrong and the 99% chance it will. It’s not worth ruining a well thought out family vacation.

(They should issue us passports + 6 months as it is ridiculous…)

When you check in, the passport is swiped and under 6 months validity flags up on the computer. You aren't getting any further. It happened to me going to the Philippines after COVID, I was one day short of six months remaining.

No matter where you fly to or from.

It would very likely ruin your trip and become a very costly mistake. Get a new passport, pay the extra for express.

Trump has fired all the people that process passports. It’s taking somewhere between 12-14 weeks to get one unless you hire the Trump owned “expedited processing service”. You can get one in a couple days through that process.

My friend a no.of yers ago flew to phucket uk passport. She got in but coming home no, then had to travel to bangkok get a letter from the embassy and then fly to the uk for her new passport. It was a nightmare

Some countries allow a little. But to certain nationalities and certain countries. Like new Zealand and Aussies.

I will be traveling in Feb. Mine runs out in June. They have. Three months cut off.

You won't be able to fly. Most countries you can pay extra to get a passport rushed through as opposed to waiting several weeks for a new passport.

The problem is NOT Thailand.

Thailand has no rule that states your passport must be valid for 6 months to travel here. The rule for Thailand is that your passport must have enough validity for the stamp you'll receive. As a tourist that means your passport must have 60 days.

There is also a Thai embassy rule that says your passport must have 6 months to apply for a visa, but this is not relevant to you as you will not be applying for a visa.

BUT here is the big disclaimer. Airline staff are trained to check passports for 6 months of validity. Many, many countries, do have a rule that says your passport must have 6 months to enter. Therefore this is the default the airline will check for. There is a 95% chance the airline would not let you fly even though Thailand has no rule.

If you can fly Thai Airways they should let you fly. Pretty much any other airline will deny you.

You also need to consider what happens after you finish your trip to Thailand. You're almost required to return to home country because your passport will have even less validity and many countries will not let you enter.
