Hey, I sent an application for the DTV and by mistake chose Ho Chi Minh instead of Hanoi (currently in Hanoi), does anybody know if they will reject my application solely because of this?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user mistakenly selected Ho Chi Minh City for their DTV application instead of Hanoi, where they currently are. The community responds with reassurance that the application should not be rejected solely based on this error, advising that as long as the applicant is in the country, it should be acceptable. They also suggest verifying acceptance policies for applications and emphasize the importance of carefully preparing visa applications.

I notice a pattern of applicants in such a hurry to get this visa as if it's only available for a 2 day sale. Do your homework, triple check everything, read everything related to visa application FAQS on the embassy website, triple check passport scans for errors, be prepared with an abundance of documentation to submit, make sure there are no restrictions/additional requirements on your nations passport when applying in the/a foreign country, don't plan to leave the country until your approval is finalized. Chill out, you'll get 6 years out of this visa, there is no need to rush it, and nobody to blame but yourself if you blew your application fee. Follow the rules.

You just have to be in the country. So it’s fine. But if they call you you have to be able to see them

@Mo *****
careful with that blanket statement

They put out a thing just before the rolled out the eVisa in Vietnam and it listed WHERE you could be to apply at Hanoi

so they check with the hotel or Airbnb receipt?

@Mo *****
that's not what I said, I said the places I listed use Hanoi and everywhere else uses HCMC, AND the O/P most likely used the address of the guest house where they were staying so that will probably be noticed

Take a trip?

I would prefer not to, but if they ask me to then I will of course. I already booked a flight back to Chiang Mai from Hanoi so I am puzzled about that πŸ˜†

The areas each serve are clearly stated on their websites. If they ask you to show proof of location they will just reject your application as you are in an area not served by that consulate

Check on the site to see if HCM accepts Hanoi applications. But also it should be fine as you could claim that you arrived to HCM but then travelled to Hanoi! Or just take a trip to HCM anyway so you are in fact there! I guess its all about the arrival stamp though!

a flight to HCM is so quick and cheap.

thks for the info but I dont need one. I already got my DTV

@Myles ******
they will ask for your arrival stamp. Ever a good idea to lie
Myles *******
@Brian ********
yes I assume he has already sent that. I never said to lie! I said to go to HCM as then he is there and can prove it with hotel booking.

@Myles ******
Yes, it is about the arrival stamp. HCMC does not cover Hanoi. Not sure though what happens to applications sent to the wrong district.
Myles *******
@Andi **********
surely someone can arrive to HCM and show that stamp if applying in Hanoi but then travel to Hanoi and maybe show hotel booking in Hanoi? Or vice versa obv!
Andi ***********
@Myles ******
i get what you saying, but the rules state you apply where you are located. He was located in HCMC but applied in Hanoi.

@Andi **********
yep I get that bit too!🫒

@Myles ******
if he applied days ago, then maybe ok , as they not contacted him about it. not sure when he applied

ok,they may send a request for proof of location, send a hcmc booking. I know someone similar problem, they did not provide correct location but it was ok once given corresponding hotel location info.

Ohh so you mean I don't even have to physically go to that hotel but simply send a booking confirmation and my passport visa stamp, right?
Myles *******
@Arthur ********
depends how strict they are. Maybe they ask for just the booking. Maybe they ask for proof of payment to the hotel, who knows! Id just make the trip as HCM nice anyway and it got to be cheaper than the $340 u might get β€˜scammed’ out of if they find out u not in HCM. Up to u bud

the problem is there is no option to switch once applied to another district, but I can't believe they will scam 340$ off me just for such minor fixable mistake πŸ€”πŸ˜”

@Arthur ********
after what
@Andi **********
just confirmed Id get yourself to HCM and book a hotel there so u can send them the booking. Then u can claim u arrived to Hanoi but travelled to HCM as thats where u would be when application was processing. Whether they accept this or say u were in Hanoi when applied so application is invalid, who knows! U can also email Hanoi to ask I guess but then u are letting them know the issue so up to u!
Myles *******
@Arthur ********
scam? They are not scamming u if u applied to the wrong embassy!
