Hi,

I am due to end my employment at the end of this month. How long do I have to leave the country? Would I be able to leave and return as a tourist?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Answer summary
After ending employment in Thailand, you are required to leave the country within 24 hours or by midnight of the day your employment officially concludes. While there was a previous understanding of a 7-day grace period, this has changed, and immediate departure is now enforced unless you secure a special extension. You are allowed to return as a tourist afterward, but this will depend on your immigration history and the discretion of the immigration officer at the border. If you plan to return, you might consider applying for different visa options that allow for longer stays.

You have until midnight unless you plan it in advance and arrange to convert to a new extension of stay

Only 3 correct answers so far. Your permission to stay ends at midnight on the day your work ends, unless you're on the original 90 day visa and not an extension.

I was told 24 hours by my company, but that is not true as I found when i went to immigrationthe next day. You must leave the same day or convert your visa to one that allows you to stay, or in my case pay overstay. They did allow me to get a one week extension, and then I did a border run, then applied for a non0 retirement.

If you are on an extension of stay then, when you cancel this (as you are required to do), you could immediately apply for a different extension by meeting the requirements (e.g. are you over 50 and have over 800k seasoned in a Thai bank or do you have Thai salary in excess of 65k per month for the last 12 months or does your Embassy still provide the income affidavit?).

It is not 24 hours, it's rhe same day it is canceled unless you apply for an extension.

This would be denied and you must have proof you are leaving within 7 days and they will grant you that.

It's a denial of extension 7 days to leave.

If you return as a tourist right away, it'll be depending on your history and the officer you are in front of.

You can cancel your work permit and extension of stay (in that order) in advance with a letter from your employer then you leave on the date stated in the letter. You can return as a tourist subject to the immigration officer you will stand in front of
