How honest should we be in our DTV visa application regarding income and financial support?

How honest do we need to get with our DTV application? My girlfriend’s disability income is what pays the bills, and my saving has funded both of our bank accounts to meet the financial requirements. If, for some reason her income was cut off we could afford to live here for nearly three years. If she abandoned me with my money stop in her bank account, that would suck, but I could still live here for another 18 months without income.
Answer summary
The discussion revolves around the need for honesty in the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) application for Thailand, particularly regarding financial disclosures. A participant expresses concern about whether to reveal their girlfriend's disability income that supports their living expenses. The consensus advises that applicants should be honest while maintaining clarity and simplicity in their submissions. It's noted that while certain embassies may request a bank balance of 500,000 Thai baht for at least 3-6 months, income sources are generally deemed irrelevant by others in the discussion. However, some participants caution about dependency issues and the complications that may arise if financial situations change.

how do they not qualify if both have 500k+ bank balance?

We are discussing DTV visa.

500k bank balance they want to see a salary, they want people with money ... There's a reason rejections are now 10x than when they started. They want people to boost the economy not scrape by on "disability" or pension.

Oh right? You seem to know everything maybe you could enlighten us then why more than 50% are getting denied in Hanoi with 500k + in bank. Also why most embassies are asking for payslips and tax returns now then even with soft power? 👉💡

no. For DTV they only look if maintained a balance for 3-6 months depending on embassy. Again: Income is irrelevant.

not really. Im also on that. They just don’t cover pre existing. It’s mostly age that matters for premium cost

Don't put money in her name if you are worried she could take it and leave which is very highly probable. And I am a female BTW. You could just attach documentation that you are the main lrovidor with enough balance for both and get it notarized it

Disclose only what you need to disclose. Not a word more. They don't care where your income comes from.

Depends on your own feelings about yourself.

You apply for a Government document, a document that might give you permission to live 6 years in their country.

YOU SIGN before payments: All supporting documents are true and corect,

Any false or misleading information may result in permanent visa refusal, or denial of entry into the Kingdom of Thailand.

As people should know: Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

You are welcome to make your own choices in life; be aware that choices have consequences.

I read somewhere that you have to get a notarized form that someone is your financial backer if you don’t have the 500k yourself. Does that apply to her in this situation? Like in right here, but we’re not married so I doubt e we can apply as a family or something

Anonymer Teilnehmer no they just want to see at least 500k in a bank for the last 3 months.

Anonymous participant if not legally married, you both need to apply for seperate visas, also means seperate incomes and bank account
Tore *********

@Lee-Ann ******
but that’s not a income requirement for the visa itself. You just have to show contracts with real clients. Or employment contract with letter stating you are allowed remote work.

Bank balance is the only financial requirement. There is no minimum income requirement. Even for remote work you don’t actually have to show income if you otherwise prove client contracts/company registration or employment contract with remote work authorization.

Anonymous participant as neither of you will work you each apply separately using a Soft Power option by showing a suitable course, preferably over longer than 6 months duration. Be aware that you can both also be asked to show how you can support yourselves for the duration of visa, but if they want to see this they will ask after you submit your application.
Lee-Ann *******
Lee-Ann *******
Anonymous participant that's where your issue is then, for Soft power, your going to have to be sure you have enough income to last the term of the visa, and in your case be sure your relationship is stable and last

we have separate bank accounts. Only one of us has an income.

Anonymous participant financial support letters don’t work that often, usually only for dependents. She is t your legal dependent,so good possibility it won’t work for her.

Income is irrelevant with DTV application. The minimum bank balance is the only financial requirement.

Be aware that certain soft powers are getting more difficult at some embassies. Its good to show more than 6 month’s activities to avoid getting denied or getting a METV. Many have been given METV when applying DTV. Especially for short cooking class courses

@Tore ********
That is not completely true. In Los Angeles, they said the the minimum was not enough. They looked at deposit history over 3 to 6 months because some people were having the funds transferred into accounts just for approval. I think it is easier to get the DTV with the minimum bank requirement in countries where that amount seems big, in the States, and Europe not so much.
Tore *********

@Fleace *******
yes, of course. 3 - 6 months balance seasoning is commonly asked for. Did I say it wasn’t? i was pointing out income is irrelevant for DTV.

I get you, and still have a follow up question. I’m going to a cooking school that helps apply for the dtv, simultaneously I’ll be attending a 12-month Thai school, but not one that qualifies for dtv. She’s going to boating school after cooking school.

Do you think they’ll look at that and give DTV or does that still look like ED visa to you

Anonymous participant as others already mentioned. Keep it simple. Apply with separate applications. bank balance and the initial course.

Dont make the application too complex.
Greg ********

Anonymous participant. Currently, there is no requirement for ongoing activities after the first course. Six months course seems to be emerging as minimum at many embassies. No need to mention any activities other than the cooking school to get the DTV. If they ask what you are doing after the cooking I would say further cooking.

Anonymous participant you're mixing up too much... The Embassy or Consulate staff will be confused.

Keep it SIMPLE.

As you are not Married...

Each of you will need to submit an individual DTV visa application.

Make sure each of you has a bank account in their own name with 500,000 Thai baht or more in it for 3 MONTHS with many Thai Embassy or Consulate wanting to see 6 months statements.

Where are you now?

Are you both USA 🇺🇸 passport holders
