How do I extend my Tourist Visa in Thailand for another month before applying for a longer extension?

Frequent visitor, arrived 01 January from the UK with 60 day Tourist Visa. Scheduled return is April 1st, but would happily stay another month until the end of April, visas permitting. Am I right in thinking I have to apply for the regular 30 day extension before (assuming the scheme is still running) applying for a 60 day visa amnesty extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A visitor currently holding a 60-day Tourist Visa who wants to stay until the end of April needs to apply for a 30-day extension before considering a 60-day visa amnesty extension. It is crucial to visit the immigration office before the current entry stamp expires.

Your first plan is already for 90days. This means you already included 30 days tourism extension. Be sure you go to the immigration office before your current entry stamp is expired, don't mix the dates with the expiry of the visa itself.

Yes, first you apply for the standard 30 day Extension of Stay based on tourism.
