"Thanks. Where can I find a listing of descriptions of the various types of visas so as to apply for a longer period Visa when I fly to Vientiane, Laos later this month? 

I see people chatting about many different types of visas but I don't know which is what."

They will only issue the 90 day single entry in Vientiane. For the multi entry 1 year you have to go to Savanakhet, if doing it in Laos.
