Anyone been asked to show the 500K THB in their account at airport immigration?
Answer summary
The conversation discusses whether travelers entering Thailand have been asked to show proof of 500,000 THB in their bank accounts at immigration checkpoints. Several comments indicate that many individuals, including multiple entries by remote workers on DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) and students, have not been asked for such proof. Some commenters express confusion and frustration with inconsistent practices by Thai immigration, while others mention possible misinformation circulated by certain groups about the requirements. Overall, experiences vary widely.

They are pretty clear in their rules they don’t ask for qualifying information after you been approved. If you’re taking classes they may ask for proof you still take the classes. No one has proven that they got denied from not showing 500k baht. Since the DTV has started this group in particular has a group of old men who are not citizens of Thailand trying to convince people Thailand is not accepting the DTV. The Thai ppl are heavily complaining about this group as well to no avail.

Nobody here is interested why you are in Thailand.

It is clear why you are in this group.

Post misinformation and insults.

Visa application requirements are:

- Passport Biodata Page or Travel Document (Must be valid within 6 months from travel date)

- Photograph of the applicant, taken within the past six months

- Proof of permanent residence in the country where the DTV application is submitted.

- A certificate of criminal record clearance.

- A copy of a last 3 months of saving or checking bank statements with an ending balance of no less than 500,000 THB that shows the applicant's name and date. In case of submitting a family bank statement, proof of relationship (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate) must be provide

- Letter of acceptance from institute or company organizing activities, letter of appointment from hospital/medical center.

- FBI Criminal certificate issued within 3 months

Are you suggesting that one should always carry a pack of these documents just in case? Perhaps we also need to acquire a new certificate of criminal record clearance every time?

Glad to know that everyone who disagrees with you is still a poster of misinformation... but luckily you are the only one spreading golden truth and logic :D

Show just one place where "They" are clear "they don't ask for qualifying information"

Where did somebody say "Thailand is not accepting DTV"?

Show complaints of Thai people about the group of people that is saying "Thailand is not accepting DTV"

I do not see that group, nor do I see the Thai complaining about that.

What is your point? Just prove your statements.

"That is also what I say." No it is not. Where is it said in "visa requirements and Immigration law" that one must have 500K in their bank account at a re-entry?

The claim that this is implied from the initial visa requirements, is your opinion and not an actual requirement. And immigration law most definitely does not say anything about having to keep the 500K for 5 years

@Luit ****************
The proof is that these are quite literally VISA APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS. I.e. requirements that need to be met to APPLY for the visa.
Luit *****************
Luit *****************
@Mina ****
Where is your proof that the visa requirements are only initial?

Why do you think it could be asked again when you do in country extension when your claim was correct.

Nowhere in law is mentioned requirements are only initial, that might be your invention, but is nowhere on law or official published rules.

I not claim anything at all, I just draw the conclusion that what some report about IO checking is conform rules and law.

For a middle-aged man you have unbelievably little knowledge about how laws work. Laws do not include things that people DO NOT NEED to do. Laws include the things people MUST do and the things people MUST NOT do

Visa requirements and Immigration law says as you say what people need to do.

If you claim DTV holders are being denied entry due to lack of 500,000 THB, not currently being enrolled upon qualifying cultural courses or being unemployed from their remote online work the onus is upon you to point the group towards verfiable reports. In the absence of such reports we can only conclude that it isn't happening.

Stelio Candelli Christopher when you say stories are troll stories you should prove they are troll stories.

Your stories cannot be verified either so why should your stories be considered as real and stories from other people as troll stories.

You say a proof could be a no entry stamp, just show us your stamp in your passport and describe your situation whn you got that stamp.

You seem to know how a denial exactly works, so show us!

Not from a "reliable" source, though wouldn't be surprised if they started. After all it is a requirement of they DTV visa.

Throughout your DTV just leave the 500,000 in your acct It’s a requirement of the DTV so ensure your documents are on point in the event they do ask. Better to be prepared than to assume it’s all over because you’ve been approved and there are no stipulations thereafter. Every entry it’s within their right to ask about your documents, whether they do or don’t depends on the officer and perhaps how busy they are on the day of your re-entry. Many DTV holders have been denied entry so all holders should always be prepared in my opinion.

It's not an ongoing requirement. They can ask anything they want at immigration but the 500k is a application requirement. The 20k is required to enter.

What about someone on a "agent" retirement visa. How would they prove the money in the account? Especially when its not their money?
Robert ***********
Robert ***********
@Za ******
So you purchase a re-entry permit. They never ask to prove you are still married when you get the permit or when you re-enter.
Luit *****************
Luit *****************
@Robert **********
Immigration did not tell me if they ever asked someone to prove their marital status, but you seem to have access to that kind of statistics.

I agree it might be quite difficult to prove you are married, so it might be unreasonable to ask.

For 500k of funds that is quite easy so more reasonable to ask.

I guess there will not be much people leave and re-enter on a marriage visa anyway while they are already divorced, because at the next extension they need to prove anyway.

For retirement visa also the complete checks are done at extension, a check in between would only catch somebody that was not extending anyway, so not really worth the effort.

But since you seem to have access to immigration statistics, fee free to tell us if and when someone on retirement visa was checked at entrance.
Za *******
Za *******
@Robert **********
do you even know how a marriage visa works? The marriage visa is valid only for 1 year and you need to extend it in the country every year. Every time you need the extension you have to keep 400k in a Thai bank account for at least 2 months before you apply for extension or to have a salary of at least 35k/month. They also come to your house every year and you have to prove that you are living with your thai wife/husband and you also need 2 neighbors to confirm it that they saw you around living there. With a marriage visa you cannot even leave the country unless you purchase a re-entry permit
Robert ***********
Robert ***********
@Luit ****************
I won't have the problem because its not an issue for me. I am also not scamming a visa saying I am going to classes that I never intended to go to just to get a 5 year visa.
Robert ***********
Robert ***********
@Luit ****************
But they are not asked to prove it upon entry. I know the terms for a marriage visa. My statement was they dont get asked to prove they are still married. And how would you do that anyways? You say you had to prove you still had 500k because that was a filing requirement. Well so is proving you are still married. The case on here 2 days ago of the guy being refused entry stated he did not have the 500k, could not prove his Muai Thai enrollment and appeared to be from Russia. The 500k question was just an add-on to his existing non-compliance. He wasnt going to classes so they denied him entry.

Also the same coukd be said about retirement visa entrants. When was the last time anyone on a retirement visa was asked to show they didnt have less than the required amount in the bank upon re-entry?
Luit *****************
Luit *****************
@Robert **********
How do you know people on a marriage visa will not be asked?

At least each year when they get a new extension they have to proof this.

Andthey are legally required to notify Thai Immigration of the change in their status.

Technically, their permission to stay ends with the marriage, though immigration officers typically grant a 7-day short extension (or stamp) to pack and leave the country.
Luit *****************
Luit *****************
@Robert **********
the 500k is a visa requirement, nowhere in Thai law there is mentioned an application requirement or ongoing requirement.

That are just private inventions to bend the law in a way some people prefer to see it.

I wish you good luck explaining that story when an IO asks for it.

having a DTV requires you to do what you applied for the visa under. If that was 5 years of remote work or 18 months of cooking school, that's all you need to do.

But it is a tourist visa, so the normal tourist rules apply as well.
