Do you still get a 60-day visa stamp on arrival in Thailand, and is there a benefit to applying for a 60-day Tourist Visa online?

Hello everyone and thank you for accepting me into the group. I’m John from Scotland UK.

I’ve read many comments and answers and I have to say it’s the most pleasant and accommodating group I’ve seen for a long time.

Well done to the mods and members.

I have a few questions but I’ll just start with two for now.

Q1. In the past I got a 30 day visa exemption on arrival and only ever stayed for 30 days. Do you now get a 60 day stamp on arrival?

Q2. If that is the case is there any benefit in applying for a 60 day Tourist Visa online before arriving?

Thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
John from Scotland asks about the current regulations regarding the 30-day visa exemption for arrivals in Thailand and whether it has increased to a 60-day stamp. He also inquires if it is advantageous to apply for a 60-day Tourist Visa online before arriving. Responses clarify that travelers from 90 countries now receive a 60-day visa exemption on arrival and that there may be no significant advantages to applying for the Tourist Visa in advance, with some noting specific scenarios where a Tourist Visa might be needed.

I’m disappointed that they failed to make the tourist visa good for a 60-day stay. That would have been logical. Oh well…

if you just arrive in Thailand with no Visa, you'll get a 60 day Visa Exempt entry, which doesn't cost you anything. You can, if you want to, get a 30 day 'extension' on top of that for a cost of 1900 Thai Baht, which means you can spend up to 90 days in Thailand. I don't know what country you're from, so I can't convert to your currency.

If you get a 60 day Tourist Visa, that on it's own, would cost you a little less than the cost of an 'extension', mentioned previously. If you want to get an 'extension' on top of the Tourist Visa, that will cost 1900 Baht on top of the TV cost.

There's definitely no advantages of the Tourist Visa, except that perhaps Thai Immigration might not be so strict on the number of times you can enter the country with the Visa, compared to entering Visa Exempt.

You'd need a Tourist Visa if you planned to enter at a land border and already have done two land border Visa Exempt entried during this calendar year

don't think so. New rules don't limit number of land crossings, apparently

@Graham *****
now entering is unlimited, no more 2 per year

@Graham *****
actually that seems NOT to be the case anymore 😮 someone had TWO land entries this year and got a 60 day entry stamp by land no issue at all

Yes I saw that but can't get my head around it, makes no sense, they deny entry for those thought to be abusing the system but remove one of the controls?

I stopped looking for logic here in the glorious "Land 'O Thaiz" a LONG time ago 🙂

𝗤𝟭. 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝟲𝟬 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹?

You do indeed, people from 90 countries get 60 day free entry now.

𝗤𝟮. 𝗜𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝟲𝟬 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴?

The time you get when you stamp in is the same so that is your decision on whether you want to have a real tourist visa or just come in free stamp.
