Do you need an onward ticket for the DTV visa in Thailand?

Nov 22, 2025
Entered at CNX today with no questions (pre-filled TDAC, laminated DTV). Funny story though: I put the date of a flight out that I picked randomly in March (using an onward air service) because I always worry about being rejected for not having an onward ticket. They stamped my passport for DTV, but put the exit date as the date in March. I was planning to take a trip out sooner than 6 months anyway but be warned!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shared their experience entering Thailand at Chiang Mai Airport with a DTV visa, noting they filled out a random exit date. The discussion highlights confusion regarding the requirement for an onward ticket, with several comments clarifying that onward tickets are not necessary for DTV visa holders, and that the TDAC form does not require an exit date. There's also advice to be cautious with the exit date given, as it may be taken seriously by immigration.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be agents.co.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

You don’t need to add an exit date in the TDAC form if you have a DTV

Would you to kindly share a scan or photo of this Thai Immigration Entry Stamp at Chiang Mai Airport for your DTV E–Visa Entry Stamp today, as this should be a DTV E–Visa Red Entry Stamp from 22 NOV 2025 to 20 MAY 2026, but you only received a permitted stay duration up to March 2026

~Thanks a lot!

Ouuuuu… good one to know. I just thought it automatically gave you 180 days. And I thought you also have the option to extend it even though nobody does that practically because of the paperwork.

Your stamp for dtv is 180 days if not you need to go back to airport immigration and get it corrected. Makes no difference what date you put to depart on your tdac. You can put any date or leave it blank. You don't need to show a return flight with a dtv.

So you were not stamped in for 180 days AND must leave Thailand on or before the March date put in your passport.

You don't need any onward tickets out of Thailand on the DTV.

And you do not need to fill out the outgoing travel part of the TDAC.

Be warned that they take the date you tell them as true and correct 🤣

Or don’t lie and you don’t have to worry

Do you need a onward ticket for DTV? I wasn't sure either. If so I'll just get one like 4-5 months in

Last time I entered I was asked "How many days will you stay in Thailand?" and I simply replied 180. Easy.

I've been in and out of the country several times in the past few months with no onward flights booked, and haven't been asked once. I do have a Vietnam trip booked early next year, but still never been asked about onwards flights

Can I ask if you are referring to the date in the TDAC or the date stated in the DTV application?
