Do I need to print my TM30 document for immigration in Thailand, or can I show it on my phone?

Hi everyone, I've received our TM30s from the agency we've rented our condo from as a pdf on WhatsApp. He said we don't need to print them off just show them on our phone to immigration. I just want to double check that this is correct

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether it's necessary to print TM30 forms for immigration purposes or if showing them on a phone is acceptable. Most comments lean towards recommending printed copies, as immigration officials typically prefer hard copies of documents. Multiple users share their experiences, highlighting that practices can vary by immigration office and that having printed copies serves as a safer option, acknowledging that electronic documentation may not always be reliable.

Printed. They always ask for two copies of everything
Hiram *******
I thought the TM30 was the responsibility of the property owner rather than the renter.

Just print one is so cheap . The office of the condo might have a printer

Immigration will see the completed TM30 on their computer system. So I wouldn't be worried about having to show them anything. Not on your phone and not as a printout. You will receive a TM30 receipt from them tacked into your passport

Anything you require PRINT COPIES- if you need you have.simple

At Jomtien Immigration office they certainly want a hard copy, no doubt as I did it a few months ago.

Play it safe and print I always do.

Normally you dont but if your feeling worried you can print before hand or print onsite

Ready to print. Go to a copy shop. You can email it to them and they then print it for you. About ฿6/page.
Ralph *******
It may depend on your purpose in visiting Immigration. I didn’t need a TM30 at all.
Paul ********
I got real thing

Immigration typically wants printed copies of everything.

It’s a well kept secret in Thailand that the electric power plants are fueled by paper copies of foreigners’ documents.

If it’s easy to

Print them I would

Just print it out as no one can categorically answer your question but I suspect you know that.

I have always also printed any visa ever to any country in the decades I have traveled.

Two copies in two different places and since we are now able, also on phone. It costs pennies, cheap insurance 👍🏼

kinda defeats the purpose of going electronic, doesn't it? They're trying to reduce waste and emissions and your double printing it anyway. You do you, there's nothing wrong with it.

I find it hilarious (but kind of sad) that those who don't CYA are the very first to WHINE like a little baby when it all goes pear-shaped, the sh*t hits the fan, and they get screwed at immigration. "Well, then WHY do they even DO electronic stuff when it doesn't even f'ckin WORK half the time?" The powers that be do electronic stuff cuz they can and it's the cool thing to do, right? But the powers at immigration will NOT have your back if you don't have solid proof. They'll be the first to kick your butt to the curb...and then all you got remaining is the power to cry, whine and go full Karen on 'em (never a good end result, right?)

my favorite part was him changing delete to defeat after I answered but keeping silent - best response I could have hoped for. I think you’re referring to middle management types with the latitude to decide your fate? (Immigration Officers). Most people honestly do not understand that that person has all the power in that moment, regardless of any paperwork we may have paid for and possess. And if you request the supervisor, they will never override the initial officer on the spot. Perhaps after putting you in a room for awhile they will send a third officer to repeal the block- but it’s never a guarantee that you’ll be granted entry. Westerners are confounded by this and will argue it’s not true, but such types simply haven’t traveled enough to see it.

Happy New Year to you!

Keep traveling 🎉

Asian culture of 'save face' is a thing. It's even a thing outside of Asian culture lately (notice how folks are refusing to back down and admit mistakes?). Yep. Learn from the mistakes of OTHERS....or choose to learn the lessons the HARD way. It's a choice! Wisdom can prevent a lot of heartache, for sure! Happy travels!

child. Majority responses same as mine, plenty of men, but you’re going to correct and explain to me. 🤬 😂

defeats? You know what defeats? Being at immigration with a dead or lost or stolen phone. Or a newly issued emergency passport because something happened.

I live by the principle of CYA.

Also I’ve been to several countries that like to power trip and play suspicious and demand extra confirmation that you are who you say you are, especially if they find stamps in your passport they don’t like. Have you ever tried to cross a border into a country that isn’t all electronic in their immigration operations?

Why are you even talking to me 🙄

go mansplain somewhere else.

OP asked for input,

I gave mine.

Most immigrations want everything printed. E.g. Chiang Mai did not even accept i showed my booked time on my mobile. I had to print the confirmed booking.

Best to print it as it's easy to do 🙏🏽

@Jason *****
is it easy to print from WhatsApp?
Jason ******
@Angela ***********
yes very easy ,any print shop has line or WA or email to send it to,if your not sure they will help you 🙏🏽

when you open the pdf from WhatsApp on an iPhone, there will be a little button with an arrow going up, you can then press this & then it will bring up multiple options (mail, copy, save to files) etc. email it to yourself from there :)

@Angela ***********
You should be able to share the PDF to email as an attachment to yourself or save in the flies section of your phone then you can get it printed.

very easy 10 baht
Carl *******
I’d recommend printing for the sake of 50p or so. Saves you the worry 🙂

@Carl ******
what's a 50p ?
Carl *******
@Nick *********
50p / 50 pence. Half a pound. British money :) just light hearted sarcasm :)

@Carl ******
50p for a A4 print!!!!????? Try 2 Baht! 😆

@Andy ***********
similar happens in Philippines. Have a bunch of expats arguing over the fact that they get their hair cut for £2. Then another pops up and say “that’s a rip off, near me it’s only £1” 🤣
Andy ************
@Carl ******
It seems people always want to outdo each other in the "cheapness" stakes 👍

@Andy ***********
cost me 1baht at the local copy shop here in ekkamai 😆

Whooooohooo! I'll be there tomorrow and I'll stay rich from the discount!!!

Depends on the immigration office/officer. Some want it printed without exception, others are fine seeing a photo/pdf of it.
