TLDR : Answer Summary
Once your visa is approved, you are not required to keep the 500,000 THB in your bank account for the entire duration of 5 years. Stakeholders suggest that the funds only need to remain in the account if you plan to apply for an extension while in Thailand. Outside of extensions, initial approval does not necessitate maintaining the full amount continuously.

For now nobody might check, but when you ask MFA or Immigration, they will tell you need to have it, because it is a visa requirement. Apart from that, just using common sense you will understand having this financial reserves in a country like Thailand might be essential, that is why it is a requirement in the first place.

No. Only time you would need it, under current situation, is if you want to extend in country at an Immigration Office
