Hello everyone I had a question about taxes related to a non b visa. Idk if this is the correct place to ask these questions so if it’s not then sorry. Anyway, the time to file personal income tax in the US is coming up and from my understanding I have to file taxes in both countries separately. Now I didn’t receive my work permit until December 28th of last year. My employer is telling me I don’t need to file taxes on this income in Thailand until the end of my contract in September when my work permit needs renewing. My main question is if that is actually correct? Should I wait until the end of the work permit to pay the taxes? Or does Thailand have a specific deadline to file personal income taxes by? This is my first year working overseas so I appreciate any info on this. Maybe my question is a bit silly but just looking for any general guidance on this stuff thanks in advance.
TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry addresses the obligations of a US citizen working in Thailand under a non-B visa regarding personal income tax filings. The poster is uncertain whether taxes on income should be filed in Thailand immediately or at the end of the contract. Responses indicate that Thailand has a tax year similar to the US, ending around April, and emphasize the importance of filing taxes regardless of the timing of the work permit. It's recommended to consult a tax professional familiar with both Thai and US tax laws.
