Any recent experience with authenticating documents. I arrived in Thailand 3 years ago and at the time they made me certify my documents at the US embassy. Now I found this change to immigration law from the US embassy website saying that they no longer requires authentication of documents from the US. I'm going into immigration soon to add my step son to my visa. Do I need to certify his documents, (birth certificate, etc) , or can I just bring in this letter to immigration along with my originals and copies?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A recent change from the US embassy indicates that authentication of documents is no longer required for immigration in Thailand. However, for adding a step-son to your visa, you cannot do so directly as he will need his own visa. It is advisable to confirm with immigration officials whether simply bringing the originals and copies of your documents, alongside the embassy's notice, is sufficient.

You can’t add anyone to your visa. Your step-son would be required to get his own visa that is appropriate for his situation.

The US embassy states they won’t authenticate any document, but they in a roundabout way, will notarize a written statement that you write about your document.

I did that a couple years ago about my US marriage certificate.

I got an email saying they no longer do the affidavit for those things. I did one myself when I got here 3 years ago.

I'm well aware he needs his own visa. My wife has a non O visa thanks to me working. That's what I'm trying to get him
