TLDR : Answer Summary
For a visa run from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi or Myanmar, no photo is required. You cannot obtain a visa or an extension of stay at the border. Instead, you can exit Thailand, receive a stamp in the neighboring country, and return using the 30-day Visa Exempt Entry, depending on your nationality.

Went to Ranong from Koh Phayam and no photo required

No photos needed at that border for a 30 visa exempt

You can not get a Visa or an Extension of Stay at a border.

What you can do at the border is leave Thailand, stamp in/out neighbor country, come back into Thailand using the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry depending on the country of origin of your passport.

You can check yourself if your country is listed in the purple section under Visa Exempt Entry scheme
