If using an agency to get a non-o retirement visa. Do you have to apply in your home country(USA)?
Answer summary
You do not have to apply for a Non-O retirement visa in your home country (USA) when using an agency. Some users suggest that while it may be easier or cheaper to handle the initial visa processing from your home country, it is entirely possible to obtain the visa and extensions within Thailand without an agent. Many expats have successfully applied for their visa directly or used alternate locations, like Vietnam, for this purpose.

Very very easy and way cheaper for you to do from your home country. Also one less step you have to do once you get here. If you want to use an agent to get you one year extension that would make more sense. Too easy to get the non o yourself from home to make it near worth the cost.
just for applying non o visa in your home country, there is no agent needed at all. Agents can not do anything for that. But if you want a package service from agents, it can be useful for you.
You really don't need an agent to apply for the initial 90 day Non-O retirement visa. So to answer your question, no. We are from the US and we did ours in Vietnam.
