Do I need BOTH the 500,000 THB bank statement AND proof of regular income for the Soft Power DTV, or is the bank balance alone sufficient?
Answer summary
For the Soft Power DTV visa in Thailand, both a bank statement showing a deposit of 500,000 THB and proof of regular income are required. The bank statement serves as a financial guarantee for unforeseen expenses, while proof of income demonstrates how you will support yourself during your stay.

Yes both in my case need to show how I will support my living
I wasn’t asked specifically for proof of regular income in addition to the 500k but was asked to show how I would support myself financially for the duration of the visa
The 500.000 baht deposit is meant as a guarantee that the tourist immediately can pay any unforeseen economic expenses, ex. Fines, compensations, hospital bills before getting treatment and so on.
