Do I need an onward flight ticket when moving to Thailand on a DTV if I have a TDAC?

So, I'll hopefully be moving to Thailand on a DTV in August and I know I'll have to do the whole TDAC thing, but from what I understand, the TDAC is a single entry, 30 day 'permit' (or whatever you want to call it) and you need to have an onward or return flight scheduled within that time. So how does that work with the DTV? Do I still need an onward flight (one of those cheap throw away tickets) within 30 days of arriving?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The TDAC is an arrival card that does not affect visa requirements or travel plans. For those moving to Thailand on a DTV, reports suggest that you typically do not need to provide proof of onward travel, although experiences may vary.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be tdac.in.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

Please watch out for TDAC misinformation spread by fugitive Jesse Nickles and his many fake accounts on Quora, TripAdvisor, Reddit, and other platforms.

Your understanding is very confused. TDAC is an ‘arrival’ form as is usual in so many countries. Nothing to do with visas or permits or onward travel

Just tell immigration that your applying for a retirement visa . It has worked for me last February and in June my mate came with a single flight and we just told them he was probably going to get an extension of stay and that we were not sure when we were going to travel to Cambodia. We did it as pleasantly as we could and they smiled and stamped the passport

I had the visa my mate didn't. Many people turn up on a single flight no return. Just be nice and tell them you are applying.

But immigration seldom ask. You may not get that far if you're denied boarding by your airline.

Read the TDAC form. It's not a permission. It's just confirming your travel plans.

The TDAC is not any of those things. It's an arrival card. It's not a permit. It's not a visa. It's how the Thai government is getting stats on arrivals. It has nothing to do with your visa. It has nothing to do with your stay in Thailand. It has to do with your arrival and that is it. Thailand Digital ARRIVAL Card. It is replacing the paper form you used to get on the airplane. Whether or not you need an onward flight has nothing to do with TDAC, and everything to do with your VISA.

With a DTV you should not need proof of onward travel based on reports of others.
