Hi! I have been in Thailand for 7 months and next month i need to head back to Canada for a little while. Canada has lifted requirements for pre flight resting on April 1st. I do have a layover in Tokyo. Should i get a test anyway?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question raised concerns about needing a COVID-19 test for a layover in Tokyo before heading to Canada, especially since Canada lifted pre-flight testing requirements. Community members provided insights indicating that testing requirements depend on the traveler's vaccination status and whether they will leave the airport in Japan. It was mentioned that fully vaccinated individuals typically do not need a test, and transit passengers only need to meet the requirements of their final destination. However, if changing airports in Tokyo (Narita to Haneda), a test may be necessary. Advice was also given about printing all travel documents and potentially being subject to random testing upon arrival in Canada.

If you are doubled vaxed no. There is random testing once you are in Canada. Make sure you download the app ArriveCan. It must be filled out before you arrive in Canada.

We just arrived in Canada through Tokyo ( need proof of pcr-they take you aside to check) then we had to travel through USA. We filled out all the apps but seriously- print all your paperwork!!!!! Canada did not want a pre-test but for peace of mind! Glad we did it! Plus.. you may be asked for random test after customs.

As long as you don’t leave the airport in Japan, you only have to meet the requirements of your final destination country.

This was told to me by JAL staff.

You do need the test if you change from Narita to Haneda

If you're a transit passenger you don't need anything else. Just check with the airlines. We flew through Tokyo several times and they only care about the rules in your final country

You need to be fully vaxxed, for no preflight testing, you may he randomly tested once back in Canada

You'll have to look it up, Japan may require you to have a molecular or antigen test for transit

i read their documents but they don’t say about layover. I need the test if i travel there but not sure if layover is included. This is the reason of my question here
