TLDR : Answer Summary
For travelers flying with ANA Airlines from Bangkok to Canada with a layover in Japan, a COVID-19 test is generally not required if you are just transiting through the same airport (Narita or Haneda). However, if you were to leave the airport or transfer to a different airport, testing requirements could apply. Additionally, Canada does not require a COVID test for entry as long as the traveler is fully vaccinated. Passengers should always check the latest airline policies and government regulations before travel.

We just went thru on Thursday. We are Canadian’s and had to show Arrive Can app and vaccinated cert at Suvarnabhumi. No pre test and surprisingly there was no temp checks that we seen. Landed at Narita in Terminal 1 and departed terminal 1. Took the red eye into Narita and grabbed a nap room for 7 hours before our 16:15 flight to Vancouver. Everything went smoothly no worries. Enough shops open to get anything you need. Cheers and safe travels.

Just did it yesterday. Don’t need anything. Hardly anything open in Narita. Have to look hard for restaurant/bar. Hopefully short layover.

Check the website of the airline you are flying with or call the airline.

I will be doing this flight in a few weeks. As of now, no testing at all needed if you are transitting. Japan have just changed the rules for anyone actually entering Japan, but transit at the same airport (not getting luggage, not passing immigration etc) is all good.

Yes, but if you are vaccinated, you do not need covid tests to transit Tokyo, or enter Canada. The OP is transiting through Tokyo, and entering Canada. (I don't know for unvaxed transitting though as far as transit through Tokyo.)
They have not really changed anything todays announcement is very misleading. Still need a visa to enter.

No. Does Canada require some test? Then you do not need it. Covid test to transit Japan airports not required nor to board NH flights (ANA). You cannot even change departure terminals in NRT unless you have every requirement to enter Japan. Entering Japan takes 2-6 hours thanks to some of the world’s most complicated and time airport consuming entry procedures, and impossible unless you live there already, have a J-passport, or a new entry visa. Visa exempt entries are banned in principle, and they have no tourists for 2 years. When you arrive at a Japanese airport connecting passengers will deplane first and directed to your departure gate. Very easy, not eveything in NRT airport Term 1 is open, but there a a few options.

As long as you are laying over at the same airport you are landing in . If you have to transfering airports (Narita & Haneda) you need to have your Covid test.

I thought Covid tests were specifically if you left customs ?

You don't need a covid test for Canada but i heard some off the airline ask for a test anyways. I checked on their website and their info is outdated.
