Do I have to submit my Thai e-Visa application online, or can I mail it to the consulate?

I have two questions regarding the Thai e-Visa application. 1. Is it imperative that I first submit my Visa application on the e-Visa website or can I just mail it to the Thai consulate? 2. What is the difference between "certificate of criminal record clearance" and "criminal record background check"?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the Thai e-Visa application process, specifically whether submission must be done online or if mailing to the consulate is an option. Additionally, they sought clarification on the difference between a 'certificate of criminal record clearance' and a 'criminal record background check'. Community members confirmed that the e-Visa application must be completed online and noted that both terms regarding criminal records refer to similar documents, with advice on obtaining a criminal record check from the UK.

Clearance and criminal record check are virtually the same. If from UK apply online for basic check ( last 5 years) £23. Only use this website, any others are agencies which will charge you more and take longer. They email your certificate, takes about 7 days, and then you can upload to visa application

If you are American, you can also try to go the local sheriff's office for you county and just fill out a form and get a letter back stating that you don't have any criminal history. I'm not sure if always works, but it worked for me.

@Steve *******
if you’re American you go to a designated post office and they take your finger prints and then send you an FBI clearance letter.
