TLDR : Answer Summary
You do not have to purchase 5 years of insurance in one go for a retiree visa in Thailand. Generally, the insurance can be renewed annually.

How does the insurance work with the OX. Do you have to show new (or renewed) insurance to immigration each year?
Wayne *********
@Steve *******
I am assuming so, my first year is may 2023. Guessing Bangkok Insurance will contact me. Saying that there is nothing on the visa stuck in my passport but it could show on immigration computers. I will renew each year I have no issue with that just happy to leave my money in Australia bank

That's why this visa is such a winner for Aussies. I'd have to dip into my super fund (last year earned 7.6% tax free as I'm over 60), and to put that amount into a Thai bank account earning almost zero interest is financial suicide. I'm hoping to be back in Aus next August when I'll be applying for the OX.

make sure via Sydney not Cambera

If you have a visa that requires insurance, then you'd usually do 1 year at a time.
