TLDR : Answer Summary
Retiring in Thailand without having to renew a visa annually is challenging, as annual renewals are generally required. While the LTR visa and the O/X visa can provide multi-year extensions (five years in some cases) with simplified renewal processes, retirees cannot completely avoid visa renewals. The standard retirement visa (NON-O) requires yearly extensions. Moreover, some comments suggest alternative methods to manage the process but none completely remove the necessity of yearly immigration checks.

Is once a year really that big of a deal? You go 11.5 months without having to worry about anything, then just deal with some paperwork for a week or two out of the year. Just deal with it and move forward. This post reeks of sheer laziness.
it’s not the paperwork like me I would have to travel all the way back to the US go through the whole FBI investigation again fingerprints get airfare and then pay all the fees just to redo my retirement visa. Why can’t I just redo it there?
I mean ffs. People want to just be free of any responsibility at all. It's one thing if you're complaining about going every

days to immigration, another thing entirely to just have to deal with it once a year.. sigh.. it's almost as if it's too much trouble to tie your shoes or something.

One can retire in another country with this attitude
I mean it’s a easy process living in Thailand following the rules, getting the retirement extension , doing the 90 day report isn’t hard! How’s that Darren?
I don't want or need the answer.. I just can't stand people who say they know the solution and it's easy but don't bother sharing it to help people out cos they don't know really , it's just a form of bragging without know anything.
sorry I ruffled your feathers, hope you wake up in a better mood today. 🤣

Elite Visa subscribers want you to think renewing annually is a big deal, but if you have a Thai friend or service help you it's not. Sure their is the cost of doing it but with a Thai friend it can be done very innexpensive and with a service still at less than a third of the cost of the Elite Visa. It's kind of like filing your taxes. Would you rather pay them 10 years of money up front at the highest rate or pay 1 year at a time and get the lowest rate? It's a personal preference.
I thought I read if you don’t stay a whole year then you don’t have to do the annual. Correct?

If you are referring to getting the one year exit visa and leaving and coming back, before it expires, to get another year added on? I have seen posts saying that is correct, but I have not done it.
still need to do yearly extension with a business. The only people who don't have to do extensions are permanent residents and citizens and you can't achieve either of those statuses as a retiree.
LTR visa. Or O/X visa. Otherwise, one does not retire in Thailand without annual renewals.

One doesn't. Living in Thailand will always involve dealing with visa issues and renewals. The closest you can get is the wealthy pensioner LTR which allows you to go 5 years between immigration checkins, but it has high requirements.
The standard retirement visa will always require yearly extensions.
