TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among respondents indicates that while immigration officers in Thailand can technically ask for proof of funds, such as the 500,000 baht requirement, it is considered rare and mostly occurs only if there is suspicion regarding a traveler's intentions. Some users reported being asked for their account balance and cash on hand, but many others stated that they had not encountered such requests.

You can be asked anything but probably won’t be unless there is an underlying concern that you are dodgy

No

I got asked to show and fill out a form with the balance in my account and what cash I had on me.

Nope.

I know two have been its rare

AND yet nobody has reported being ASKED to show the 500k Bank account balance on arrival into Thailand. I wait for the " first person report " vs " I know two ".

@James *******
just 2 days ago I arrived in Phuket and was asked to show what documents I sent to Jakarta and to show my balance and fill out a form with my balance.

Thank You for your helpful reply.

Was this your FIRST TIME using the DTV visa to enter Thailand?

A first person report āœ… Phuket is known for occasionally asking to see the copies of the DTV Thai Visa application documents.

That's WHY it's recommended that you carry with you a printed out copy of the documents.

As for bank account balance... Did you have to use your phone and upload the current bank account balance to show Thai Immigration ?

Or showed them the bank account balance statement submitted with your DTV application?

no one has ever reported about beeing asked to show it… and its nowhere written that you need to hold the 500k permanently

@Dany *******
When it was a tempory requirement as you suggest, it should be written when the requirement is lifted.

do you know anyone on marriage or retirement visa who has been asked to show money? i dont.
Luit *****************
@Dany *******
No reason to ask, they are checked when they enter the country, they are checked every year at extension, and also might not travel in and out very much, so why do the extra checks? Just to check if their collegues at the immigration do their work in a correct way?

But I was not talking about actualy checks, you suggest you don't need the 500k permanently
Dany ********
@Luit ****************
with a marriage or retirement visa you get checked on entry for your bank statements? lol 🤣 i doubt that.

the only time you get checked is when you do the extension. same with the DTV….

yes you do NOT need 500k permanently. its even pretty stupid to have that much money uninvested… no one in thailand is checking for your 500k either.

this seems to be another theory vs. practice argument…
Todd *********
Sure they can. But the question you want to ask is if that will affect your entry. And that answer is no. There is no requirement to hold the 500k after successful application.

Fear owns you mate. I don’t share your fears. You are a slave to it.

For us, global immigration has always been easy. We are mixed nationality couple with 3 residencies in countries that are not our own. Thailand has very flexible rules. You need to know where to go, who to talk to and when.

You obviously have no experience with Thai immigration other than doing what your wife tells you. If i was married to a Thai lady, your route is good. But you clearly have no relevant. experience in the real world.

would you like useful help for visa entry. Or no? It’s up to you

@Todd ********
hard to argue with that one

It’s within immigration’s purview to ensure you still meet the conditions of the visa so if you hypothetically didn’t have 500k or proof you’re still engaged in remote work/soft power activities then they can deny you but that hasn’t happened yet.
Todd *********
Anonymous participant 881 it hasn’t happened yet, and won’t happen in the future
Luit *****************
@Todd ********
I know it is difficult for some people but in this very same post somebody tells he was asked to show his bank account, but I guess you don't believe that either because it does not fit with the fairytale in your brain.
Luit *****************
@Todd ********
MFA and Immigration don't agree with you. They confirm requirements are in place for every entry.
Todd *********
@Luit ****************
no, they don’t. No point in being dishonest Luit.
Luit *****************
@Todd ********
You suggest they both lied to me? It also makes sense what they say, 500K is needed as financial reserve when you are in Thailand, why should you only need that at moment of application.

Up to now nobody was able to show where it was announced for DTV visa requirements are only temporary
Todd *********
@Luit ****************
more likely you misunderstood. The 500k is a requirement for application only. There is NO further requirement. Stop being so ridiculous
Luit *****************
@Todd ********
I am sure I do not misunderstood, maybe YOU just misunderstood.

The answer of MFA and Immigration makes perfectly sense, because normally visa requirements are valid the same period the visa is valid.

Please show where it is mentioned it is only a requirement at the moment of application and at some embassies 3 till 6 months before.

I bet you cannot show anything confirming this ridiculous statement of yours.

Why should requirements only be in place BEFORE you have the visa, and nor HILE you have the visa? How hard can it be to understand that?
Todd *********
@Luit ****************
don’t be ridiculous. ā€˜Please show where it is mentioned’ šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ here is a hint for you, the visa requirements are explicit about WHAT YOU REQUIRE. They don’t give you a handy list of things you don’t require. What an absolute buffoon. Shut up and go enjoy the rain in šŸ‡³šŸ‡± you absolute w āš“ļø
Luit *****************
@Todd ********
I agree the visa requirements clearly show what you require, one of them is 500K in a bank account, so that is required during the whole visa period unless you find other info somewhere else, but I bet you fail again, over and over.

And yes there is no list that tells you don't require 500K, the list requires you need 500K, but somehow in your mind there is something that tells that you don't need 500 k, but since you cannot proof that with facts you declare others as absolute buffoon, to hide the fact that you cannot prove your imagination.

Rest of your info is also rubbish, it does not rain in Netherlands, it is snowing, but for you that might also be not understandable, just like you don't understand the word requirement.

And why should I listen to a brainless guy and go to Netherlands, I don't like the snow, but also it is none of your business where I should go.

They can, but I dont know anyone who has been asked.

IO can ask anything they want.
