Can we use strangers as witnesses for the kor ror 22 document in Thailand?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I going to the district office to get kor or 22 doc. The officer there said we need to find at least 2 witnesses with us. My question is it ok we can find the stranger there to be our witness? Or the witnesses have  to be our friends? We don’t have any Thai friends here, cause my wife actually not grew up here.

Any suggestions will be appreciated, thank you in advance!

as several others had said and I will reinforce if you live in a village go to the village head man or local head person. in my village it's a woman and she lives right next door. they will go with you and will be able to find someone else.

if you're in Bangkok ask someone in your condo maybe in the juristic office. everyone can appreciate a little extra baht. just tip well. pay for their trip to and from and even buy him a meal if you're that generous.

KR 22 is, as far as I know an update of the KR2 marriage registration to prove you are still married and is usually required when making an application for an extension of stay. Were you married in Thailand recently (in 2026)?  If so, you shouldn't need a KR22.

sure, it should be fine for witnesses, did you ask the District Office beforehand when you went to ask for their requirements (documents) needs for your Registration of Foreign Marriage Certificate ( คร.22 )?

They are supposed to be 2 friends.. or possibly 2 neighbours who know you live next door or across the street from them because they see you coming and going all the time.. they are vouching for you being the married couple that live at your stated address.. and they need to produce their blue book and IC to prove who they are.. it's not like dragging 2 strangers off the street to watch you get wed and to simply confirm they saw you sign the marriage document by adding their signatures as witnesses.. if their blue book doesn't reflect they are your near neighbours they will want to know how they know you.. at least this was our experience at our local amphur when seeking a KR22 👍
