TLDR : Answer Summary
The DTVisa is primarily a tourist visa meant for learning, not working. Therefore, you cannot work in Thailand with a DTVisa. If you wish to work, you would need to switch to a different visa type that allows employment, such as a Non-B visa. You are allowed to convert your DTVisa to another visa while in Thailand.

If you want to work inside Thailand you will need to get off the DTV and onto a visa such as a Non-B that allows you to do so. The good news is that the DTV is basically a tourist visa so you are allowed to convert to another visa type inside Thailand

Not always allowed to convert inside Thailand. Often need to leave to a neighbouring countries. Some countries must even return to home country to apply. I worked for a very large global company who has been BOI for 50 years of em0loying foreigners. Seen it a few times.

it's a basic principle of tourist entries that they are convertible to other visa types but of course you must be eligible to apply for those other visa types

Well my experience and that of a large company with 50 years of employing foreigners would say otherwise. Do you have direct experience?

like I said it depends if they are eligible to apply. That includes having the correct paperwork to apply. The paperwork supplied by the company can be pretty extensive to apply inside Thailand so many prefer to supply the reduced paperwork required to apply outside Thailand

Of course we had the correct paperwork. It was a multi-billion USD BOI company who provided the paperwork we flew to Singapore with to get the B Visa. It was then extended to 2 years at Chimichurri along with a 2 year WP. This company has been providing the paperwork for 50 years. I think they know a tad more than you do about the required paperwork as they apply for a number each year. Have you ever done it yourself ie applied for a B and had a Thai WP?

please reread what I wrote above. I don't care how big your company is, the reason you had to go to Singapore for your Non-B is that your company was either unwilling or unable to supply the much greater amount of paperwork required to get a Non-B visa inside Thailand. That doesn't mean you can't get one inside Thailand which you can do if you meet the criteria.

Aye mate - you are correct and multi-billion dollar companies are wrong. It is illuminating that you have no direct experience and are relying on hearsay. Have you ever worked in Thailand legally? Do you even live in Thailand?

No. I do not like seeing wrong information posted. It may cause people to lose out. Why don't you keep your nose out unless you have anything substantive to add. What information do you have regarding obtaining the B Visa in order to get a WP?

You can't work on the DTV, neither can you get a permission to work while on the DTV. That's one of the very basic principles of this visa.
