TLDR : Answer Summary
To convert a German driver's license to a Thai license, using a yellow book as proof of residency is generally acceptable, but requirements may vary by the Department of Land Transport (DLT). Some DLT offices may request additional documentation, like a residence certificate from immigration, confirming your address. Additionally, having an International Driving Permit (IDP) may also be beneficial.
Ok. My first Thai license took me around 2 hours to get. Took fiancée along, did a few tests, showed UK license and I.D.P. Like I said, easy! I've had bike and car licences in the UK for over 30 years, still valid today but also have a Thai one now!

It's going to depend on the DLT office you go to. Some will require a residence certificate from immigration whether you have a yellow book or not.

Nein.
