Come to the museum, and after showing my Thai Driving licence ( got with my DTV ), I got Thai rate 250 baht instead of 500 for foreigners.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat shared their experience successfully using their Thai driving license to receive a local admission rate at a museum, paying 250 baht instead of the 500 baht foreigner rate. Other comments indicate that this may not be universally accepted and that some places now require a Thai ID card for local rates. There are mixed opinions on whether taking advantage of this price disparity affects local institutions financially.

I suppose it’s important to save the seven dollars US, and if that’s what really matters, that’s cool. My understanding is that the reason for the price disparity is that Thai nationals help subsidize these institutions through the government, who intern funds them through revenue, including taxes. So taking advantage of this loophole does save the individual money, but does nothing to compensate the institution. But I guess looking out for number one is still important to many.

This is the museum where back in late 2023, they were charging foreigners less than Thais if you booked via Klook. No need to show anything to the officials on duty at the time, other than your Klook booking.

Unfortunately, this doesn't work everywhere. They usually want a Thai ID card these days. A driver's license is no longer sufficient. You just got lucky.

In my case, it's true. In the Chiang Mai region it just doesn't work anymore. They want to see a Thai ID card.

well that’s not true is it. This is the first time with my driving licence which I only got a couple of weeks ago, before that I used my Thai Bank Card and that worked 3 out of 4 times.

That’s a 80% success rate.

Anonymous participant Come to the South and you'll see that unfortunately, no visa type really does the job. I was able to get some local prices around Bangkok, but almost nowhere in the South. Driving licenses, work permits, and so on aren’t accepted.
