TLDR : Answer Summary
While the user is considering a one-way ticket to Thailand for a family visit, several commenters advise against it. They point out that airlines and immigration may require a return ticket to board the flight and enter the country, making it risky to rely solely on a one-way ticket. Additionally, purchasing both tickets in advance may actually be more cost-effective.
in my experience two one way tickets cost more than one return. dont know if they do them now but you used to be able to get an open ticket if you were not sure of your return date.
The cheapest option is to buy both tickets ahead of time. You're probably going to run into issues boarding your flight if you don't have a return ticket or at least a ticket out of Thailand. And buying a plane ticket on short notice will likely be much more expensive.
ok well ive got family to provide money for that if thats the case plus im dual nationality but my thai passport has expired but the passport is with my family in Thailand which i will renew when im over there.
You will probably be fine with the immigration, the only issue could be as stated that your airline will ask for an onward ticket during check in. Best thing is to call your airline and ask and be prepared to buy a cheap onward ticket if it’s required.
every airline I've flown with from the UK to Thailand has asked to see a return ticket pal. If you've got your Thai ID card just show them that, if you haven't they could refuse boarding because you wouldn't have a return ticket.
only thing is i don’t have anything with as my parents took it back over there states on my British passport that i was born over there. Would that help ?
