Can I travel outside Thailand while my DTV application is being processed?

Success with Remote Work DTV in Ho Chi Minh in mid-Dec and Children's Dependent DTV in Jakarta the day after Christmas (WITH travel during process):

I can't say for sure the Thais don't allow you to travel during the application process (many other countries do), but I think the key thing is to NOT travel to Thailand, during the process and explain where you've been.

I applied in HCM with:

- work contract,

-payslips,

- savings bank statements,

- letter from employer confirming work and ability to work remotely.

*I used the SmallPDF app for converting, combining, editing, finishing docs (highly recommend!).*

Stayed a few days and then had to leave Vietnam. They came back asking for bank statements showing salary received highlighted. Took approx 3 working days for initial submission to be reviewed, not quite 2 working days to be approved after additional docs provided. (Note, sometimes the requests come later in the evening Thai time - 8pm and later - so do keep an eye on your inbox if you're in a rush.)

By this time, I was in Indonesia. I applied for the children's visas to the Jakarta embassy sending:

- my visa,

-same (combined) bank statements, payslips, etc,

- work contract,

- birth certificates

- a letter from the hotel confirming we were in Indonesia.

- *a personalised letter of support (from me to the children) - template from Gemini AI*

Took approx 4 days for initial review (not incl Christmas holiday). We left Indonesia for Singapore. They came back asking for entry stamps and visa docs. Indonesia had stamped out over the entry stamp. We got on the ferry to Batam, received new 7 day Visa on Arrival (half price).

Sent back photos of both entry and the one exit stamps, both visa slips, and ALL passport pages (for the children only).

I included a letter saying we were in Indonesia when we applied, but had to return to Singapore for the Christmas festivities, but that they were now in Indonesia again and that the children had NOT travelled to Thailand (evidenced by ALL passport pages).

They approved the next working day.

Note, the application did not ask for permission from the other parent (many countries do), which is not to say they can't when you travel.

The fact that you can travel without having consequences, has no real value, I can drive my car with double the allowed speed without getting fined, but that is not guaranteed of course.

Why should it have consequences?! Ask yourself if that comment adds any value with its false equivalence of actions that can cause death. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚ On the other hand, I self-reported my travel and the authorities had no problem. Dude, it's a visa application and everyone's circumstances are different. I'm relaying my experience as people might find it useful. (It's not like the question doesn't come up neatly every day.)

You provided savings or checking? People said no savings or investment

who said no savings?! šŸ¤” Savings are just fine. It has to be a personal bank account (savings or checking) where you can access your money immediatly. That means no stocks or bitcoins etc and no a business account.

thought I read someone denied in Hanoi showing savings. Iā€™m not positive but I thought others had issues too.

Maybe they didn't have it in the account long enough or there were other factors. I had very little in the chequeing account on the statement I sent, so I don't see how they have a problem with it being in savings.

Oh thank you for sharing your information . That sounds really helpful . So it means that we can travel to other counties except Thailand during the application process ?

Anonymous participant 324 I can't commit to saying for certain, but I did, and at least for the second application, they knew about it. That said, I did return so they were there both on the day of submission and the first day of the second round of processing. I was also in Indonesia when the first was approved (and they're have known that if they put two and two together. We only did an overnighter back in Indonesia and we were back in Singapore when the second two were approved. So it's a definite maybe, but could depend on the embassy/consulate. I mean, I applied abroad because the Singapore requirements are ridiculous (even with being residents, it was too much documentation).

Anonymous participant 324 Look, I'm no expert, it might be different for different embassies. HCM didn't ask (I did travel), even though they asked for other info. Maybe Jakarta liked my kindly worded letter. Maybe it was less important because it was Dependent visa. But it's obviously not totally prohibited.

Anonymous participant 324 Well it seems you can for now but you may be required to travel back to the country of application.

Hopefully, people will read your post and seriously consider obtaining their visa before traveling to Thailand. Thanks for the feedback.

You're welcome. Thought that might be useful for some people. Hope it helps!

Anonymous participant I am also of the opinion that you can travel elsewhere during processing of any visa, but if the particular Thai Embassy/Consulate where you submit a Thai E-Visa application doesn't require specific residency documents, then travel to other countries would be fine too....

Yes, precisely. I'm noncommittal when people ask me, because someone will blame. However, I've long had legitimate multiple passports for that reason.
