TLDR : Answer Summary
The OA Retirement visa requires that you have 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account or an equivalent amount in a foreign bank account, such as an Australian bank account. It is noted that the funds should ideally be seasoned in the account for 2 months prior to the application. For further confirmation regarding the local currency equivalent and specific details, it is advised to consult the local Thai consulate.

Getting the original Non-OA Visa ("the sticker") requires 800K THB in a foreign bank account in local currency. I don't know how much that would be in Aus, sadly, you'd have to contact the local consulate for more information.
For the one year extension of stay based on "retirement", you'll need 800K THB in a bank account, seasoned for 2 months, and for the balance not to fall under 400K THB for the rest of the year.
