Can I Train at Different Gyms in Thailand with a Soft Power Muay Thai Visa?

May 9, 2025
Does anyone know if having a Soft Power Muay Thai DTV is it ok to travel around Thailand to train at any gym other than the gym used in the application? Or is this not checked at all at the moment if only extending by doing border bounces?

TLDR : Answer Summary
This post discusses the flexibility of training at different gyms in Thailand for individuals with a Soft Power Muay Thai DTV visa. Some comments suggest that there have been instances of gym attendance being checked, whereas others believe that monitoring is minimal. The general consensus leans towards the idea that as long as you attend the sessions you signed up for, traveling to different gyms shouldn't pose a significant issue.

I genuinely think far too many people are over thinking this. Relax and enjoy it. Why waste your time overthinking every single detail when we're all in uncharted territory. Nobody has definitive answers, only hearsay and speculation.

There have been reports of attendance at gyms being checked but assuming you attend the sessions you have signed up for you can also travel

If I buy a package for 6 months then am I expected to stay 6 months without leaving Thailand as well or can I take a break and return a few months later to continue assuming the gym is ok with it?

Some have posted here that their gym got checked. Not a lot though. Better checking with the gym directly.

Anonymous participant 941 And if it’s checked and there is an issue what is the consequence so far?

Anonymous participant No idea on consequences as it is a new visa and checks aren't common for now. You may check what's done with ED visa holders (students). They used to check classes attendance and they just have announced some stricter measures these last days in the news.

Great to hear you're working for thai immigration and already know everything about Thailand. Have you heard about the schools getting checked when you're under an ED visa? Well that's happening! And yes, it has been reported by DTV holders for some Muay Thai schools here. I'm not the only one saying so apparently...

if he has seem it written somewhere, that is his favorite slogan. I think it is normal there are checks, but I think nothing is against switching to another gym in another place, the visa rules don't mention you should not switch.

Agree. That's my point since the very beginning. Better checking with the gym if possible.

ED schools checks and full docs when extending a DTV required by immigration aren't hearsay...

I don't. Immigration doesn't care if it's a language school or a Muay Thai. And I'm not the only one on this post saying some gyms got checked.

Anonymous participant Yes Immigration doesn't care about Muay Thai gyms because they haven't checked any. Correct. ✅

Whatever the visa you hold, that's the same immigration that is controlling borders and expats.

Anonymous participant So Immigration are letting in 99.9% of DTV holders in with no questions. But are spending time and money going to Muay Thai gyms to check.... Ridiculous.

You have both border immigration and in-country immigration, and both conduct checks. In-country immigration is known among expats for sometimes carrying out home visits (mostly for marriage visas) and inspections at schools/business sites (for student or business visas). Immigration already performs such checks for other visa types, so why wouldn’t they do the same for the DTV? The people mentioned could also be stopped at the border, yet authorities still "spend time and money" to conduct in-country checks. DTV is a new visa, and things can change very quickly...

Anonymous participant So now you're saying they're not checking but might do in the future? And comparing a tourist visa to non o visas doesn't make sense. Comparing the DTV to the TR and METV does.

You don't need to be a genius to understand that immigration will check for visa requirements, and that will include the activities related to the visa. If a Muay Thai is used by far more DTV holders than the capacity of the school, that might get some attention. That certainly will not mean every school and every DTV holder will be investigated, but it will happen.

I just learned from you, when others write something just ask dumb questions like "Did you see that written anywhere? or : How is your creative writing going"

I thought you might like it to get same type of questions on your reactions as you give to others.
