Passport with new 1 year ED visa stolen. Currently back in Thailand on 30 day stamp.

Is it possible to have this replaced here? My school says I need to pay again and apply, which means 6 week wait for paperwork and then having to exit Thailand to apply.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported their passport containing a 1-year Education (ED) visa was stolen, and they returned to Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption. They are seeking advice on how to replace their passport and recover their visa. Comments suggest that if they have documentation from their school and proof of a re-entry permit, they may retrieve their visa extension through the immigration office without needing to exit Thailand.

Okay, your school HAD to make copies of your VISA that you got from vientiane AND your 90 day entry stamp to send to the Ministry of Education to get you the paperwork you took to get an extension at the immigration office.

The school has copies of those papers, and all you need is to GET those, take them to the immigration office (along with ALL the documentation that shows you had your passport stolen, and got a new one etc) AND the immigration office where you got your extension can look up the extension they issued you, AND put it in this NEW passport and it will still be valid for as long as it was when you got it (usually 90 days).

This all hinges on whether you BOUGHT a re-entry permit from either the immigration office OR from the immigration booth at the airport BEFORE you flew out.

I actually have a copy of my Vientiane visa, with the 90 day entry stamp. I copied that myself. Is this all I need, along with my police report?

Thanks! So my school is either, lazy? Incompetent or just trying to rip me off? I know how they are with face, so I will need to ask for these delicately. Do you have any official source with this information? I have a feeling the school will just deny this is the case. Or should I go to immigration first to explain the situation and confirm with them that this is the case?

I have had people in your exact situation (ok, not the exact situation as they weren't robbed in Rwanda) but who were OUT of the country and lost their passport with their visa/extension and re-entry permit in it. got a NEW passport and went and recovered the old extension with documents I mentioned.

AND when you left the country to travel DID you buy a re-entry permit BEFORE you left?

That answer is critical

Yes, did everything by the book. Made sure with the school. I definitely got re-entry permit before I left. I remember the school saying how important that was.

Yes, went with the school before I left and paid 1,900 for that. Sorry if I'm not being clear.

Believe it or not I'm trying to help you and what I really need are just facts NOT the story behind it.

So if you want some accurate advice lets get back on track or I'll cut you loose and you can figure it out on your own. I got NO time for hand holding or group hugs today okay?

You COULDN'T have gotten a year long ED visa from Vientiane :/ They ONLY sell 90 day single entry ED visas. SO you are either confused OR you did get a 90 day ED visa and then you got an extension from the immigration office with documents from your school

I'm trying to find out what you actually had in your old passport because there is a way to recover a VISA and the 90 day entry from it AND there's a way to recover an extension of stay stamp from the immigration office too.

So work with me here okay?

and not to be unsympathetic how about we just cut the b/s story out of the post :O

Let's summarize it like:

I had a one year ED visa in my passport, it was stolen, I got a replacement passport and came back to thailand on a 30 day visa exempt entry.

Ok... but its not a bs story, just sharing what happened.

@Rob ********
okay, let's sort this out before it gets out of control.

Where did you get the one year ED visa?

Vientiane

Have you gone to immigration and asked? Normally they should be able to do something about this situation.

I haven't. I'm looking for advice first before I attempt that. Maybe an agent could help?

Things are changing every day here. When do you have to leave Thailand?
Rob *********
ORIGINAL POSTER
I arrived 2 days ago on 30 day stamp, which I can extend another 30 days. Hopefully I can have my ED visa replaced here.
Benjamin ******
What country are you in now?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Thailand. I got back as soon as I had my replacement passport.
