Can I register my location at a local police station in Thailand if there is no immigration office nearby?

I would have liked to reply to Mr Lagus about his reply to my earlier question about whether I could I register where I stay; either at the local police station up the road?

Well aren't you the lucky one, only having to travel 100 KM, but if you had the option of reporting to the local village bobby then I'm sure you would do so.

The reason I asked the question is because Thai immigration, and advice on here, advises that you either travel to the nearest immigration office, or report to the local police if there isn't an office in your area. So what distance constitutes as being within your area?

I am new to this site and this is only my second question, and though some of the answers to my question have been constructive, some of them are simply grandstanding.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster seeks clarification regarding the process of registering their location with Thai authorities. They mention that Thai immigration advises reporting to the nearest immigration office or a local police station if an office is unavailable, and they question what distance qualifies as 'within your area' for these purposes. They express frustration over mixed responses to their inquiry.
