I am in Thailand on an ED visa at the moment. I have a job offer, and invitation letter. I have to go to a Thai Embassy outside of Thailand to present this letter and get a business visa.

1) is it possible to get the business visa in a neighboring country at the moment? are Thai embassies issuing them?

2) will I be able to enter Thailand again on this business visa (and ofcourse going in 14 days quarantine), as it’s not yet a work permit once I enter (as application continues in Thailand).

It’s unclear to me whether this process is possible as per July 1st, and whether this business visa entry is part of the exemptions.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on an ED visa in Thailand and has received a job offer, requiring them to obtain a business visa from a Thai embassy outside the country. They seek clarification on the possibility of securing the visa in a neighboring country and the implications for re-entering Thailand. Responses indicate that neighboring countries have restrictions, and the embassies may not be processing such visas. Additionally, there are risks associated with traveling out of Thailand at this time.

If you have no other choice than to go

outside then probably your only option is to go back to your home country the unknow is how long it will take you to be able to enter back. No one can help you on that.

I would revisit with your employer and immigration and see if you can possibly change to a work extension in country, without leaving. This requires more effort on your employers part but it is technically possible. Very risky to leave right now, you may not get back any time soon. Depends on the specific consulate, what their queue is, how essential they consider your job to the Thai economy.

it's technically possible to move from Ed to a work extension, but your employer would need to work with immigration and provide the documents needed. In normal times it is often easier just to send people out to get a new visa, but that's not easy right now. You'd need to go over this with your employer and immigration to see what is required.

I will check with my prospective employer and update here in case there's an update. Thank you for your idea.

I did check with my prospective employer and they worked with their immigration agency, they say it’s not possible. Any more info or thoughts how I can help the company with the right information or alternative agency?

What do you mean by immigration agency?

@Benjamin *****
companies use “consultants” to help them with all the immigration and visa services, not sure how you call these companies.

Thank you for your comment; this is a new employer, for a new job, and my previous work permit expired (now on ED as mentioned), how can you make this a work extension? Any more info/thoughts on this?

1. As far as known, all neigbor countries has restrictions for foreigners to fly in and the Thai Consulates in there are closed for visa applications.

2. You can apply for the CoE with documents from your company to show the need you must enter Thailand, As this is done on a case by case decision, I can not predict you will be okay or not.

I'm interested too ahah

One more question, who assesses this CoE and I assume you arrange this in Thailand before you leave for another country?

I would say just use the country of origin of your passport. You might have some friends and family there who you can visit just in case things do not work out as planned. Taking the risk to stay longer period in a unknown country is yours.

CoE is applied for at the Embassy outside of Thailand. You need it before you can enter Thailand.

I got a reply from the embassy, if people are interested I can send the reply in here. It’s a massively complex process 🧐 To get the visa and the CoE.

@Dennis ************
That sounds very important to me. Can you actually make another post with that information?

thank you, I will follow up on point two.

Do you know of any embassies/consulates that are open, further away, or know where to check this?
