TLDR : Answer Summary
The response to whether one can extend a visa exemption and apply for a COVID extension simultaneously varies by immigration office (IO). While generally, it is not allowed to get both extensions at the same time, some IOs may offer a 60-day extension after the first 30 days. However, this is not consistent across all offices, and there may be particular rules at specific locations, like Chang Wattena, regarding tourist visa extensions.

am i able to get the exemption extension at chang wattena? a friend said they don't extend tourist visas there. does this apply for the exemption one also?

Some IO will give you the 60 days before you've used your 30 days extension, but i believe it's one of the other, not both.... And again definitely varies from IO to IO. But in some cases, they will grant you that

No, it isn't. In most immigration offices, you can only get a 60 day extension after you use up your first 30 day extension of stay

is the visa exemption extendable by 60 days then or just the 30 days? I plan to get the exemption extensions, followed by two months of covid extensions. and then ill likely find a decent agent or whatever.

You can only extend the visa exemption by 60 days if you have Thai dependant relatives.

An extension of stay based on tourism is good for 30 days, and you can only get that extension ONCE. After you get that extension, you can get a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. The last day they are selling them is March 30, 2021.

I would not recommend using an agent at all

Alright, Thanks. i am hearing that the Covid extensions will be available until the end of this year anyway. they probably wont announce that until the first week of April I guess. have you had a bad experience with agents?

Tom Summerson. Where did you hear the covid extensions will be available until the end of the year?

1. *SOME* agents are good, and some are not. I don't know which agents are good and which aren't good.

2. IF a person meets the requirements, getting the appropriate visa/ extension of stay is simple. If a person does not meet the requirements for the extension of stay or visa, then they shouldn't be applying for it.

3. Visa agents *MAY* (but *NOT* all) be used as a backdoor to bribe certain immigration offices to get the visa/ extension of stay illegally. IF the immigration officer is audited, *AND* if they are found to have made the visa/extension of stay using falsified paperwork, THEN the visa/ extension of stay will be retroactivity revoked, and the person is on overstay. Overstaying a visa/ extension of stay is a fine of 500THB a day, with a maximum fine of 20K THB, AND if overstayed by 90 days, a blacklist of one year.

4. Visa agents may make it more difficult to get actual, valid, extension of stays. It's very common that someone uses a visa agent to get a one year "volunteer visa" in someplace in Isan, and then they find a real job. Sadly, they can't cancel the extension of stay based on volunteering and also get the extension of stay based on employment (OF COURSE, this doesn't apply if you didn't use an agent).
