Gday. 67-Year-old Australian hoping to travel around Thailand for a min 120 days (60sth, 60nth) to start with, then pop out to Laos (slow boat), before heading down to Cambodia then back in via Trat before flying home. I am looking into METV as it seems the easiest to get. Money is no issue b700,000 cash and b55000 monthly (pension). So, the question gets asked. The first 60-day exit will be Padang Besar. (Malaysia) via Train. I have been informed tickets are not booked but bought at the station Hat Yai. Then train Back up to Chiang Mai / Rai before exiting at Chiang Khong 60 days, Total 120 days. Now instead of coming straight back in im considering the next 50 days Laos and Cambodia. Now with 10 days left on the METV I'll be entering Thailand again. The question is ? Can i get a further 60-day entry or is it just for the last 10 days of the 6mth METV. If not can i extend by 30 days if need. PLUS how soon before arriving should i apply for the METV. Travel is not until next year so plenty of time, but flights and arrival accommodation already booked. Tks.

You get stamped for 60 days with every entry. You can also extend beyond that 60 for an additional 30 for 1900 baht at an immigration office.

The max stay per calendar year may be 180 days - I've heard different version using an METV.

Bob Wolf Ive heard similar with the limit on days but then ive heard there is no limit unless you're abusing the system constantly. Eg as we speak No Visa = (60+30 then (60+7). Total 157 days. BUT with the METV ive heard each entry is 60 days during the 6mths. Eg Day 1 = 60days, Day 60 = 60days (120), Day 120 = 60days (180) now i go out and come back in on the 179th day Will i be stamped back in for 60 days plus a 30-day extension if needed. Total 269 days. Not saying that's what im planning but the question is asked. Hence the topic question.

I've heard that you could get 9 months out of an METV if you time everything correctly; however, I've also heard that 180 days is the max without the correct Visa. Don't know if the METV truly gives you more than 180 days. To the best of my knowledge, every entrance using the METV gets you a 60 day stamp. Not sure that that guarantees you the ability to get a 30 days extension, especially if over 180 days.

Note: 180 days is in a calendar year, not 365 day period, if the METV covers two different years, then 9 months is definitely possible. I've only used SETV and get the 30 day extension.
