US Citizen living in Hua Hin for one year on the non immigrant O-A visa. I'm interested in converting to the Non O visa (which doesn't require health insurance). I am planning a trip to vietnam to cancel my O-A and will re-enter on the 90 day/ 1 year retirement O visa plan. I have 65,000 baht international transfer into my Thai bank for twelve months however I read that because I am voiding my O-A visa when I leave the country the 12 month track record of bank receipts will no longer be valid- requiring me to start over. Any verification of this? TIA
Answer summary
A US citizen currently on a Non-OA visa in Hua Hin is seeking to convert to a Non-O visa, which does not require health insurance, after a trip to Vietnam. The individual is concerned about the validity of their bank transfer history of 65,000 baht, as it may reset with the cancellation of their Non-OA visa. Community members suggest verifying with the immigration office, noting successful conversions with maintained bank statuses, and advise timing the application for the Non-O visa appropriately.

Bob D'Andrea No he cannot as his current stay will be based on the original Non-OA with the continued requirement for approved insurance until he breaks that link which will invole departing

Really it's a question for your immigration office but I've seen a number of people do this successfully. You need to leave Thailand just before your Non-OA expires or the date on your stamp if later, apply for the Non-O and return to Thailand. You need to wait until you're down to the last 30 days of the stamp you get entering on the Non-O to apply for the 12 month extension and make sure you don't miss any transfers in the interim, but as I said you should verify with your immigration office
