First: thanks for all the great work you guys do on this page. Imagine every one of us would have to go to immigration to get these answers....

If I want to get a non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age, after Thai Consulates are open and borders are open to return, do I need to get this visa in my home country (Netherlands) or could I get this in Cambodia, Loas or Malaysia?

Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about obtaining a Non-Immigrant O visa after turning 50 years old and whether this can be done in a neighboring country like Cambodia, Laos, or Malaysia after borders reopen. Comments suggest that this visa can potentially be acquired in the home country (Netherlands), inside Thailand, or in those neighboring countries, but the specific future requirements are yet unknown post-lockdown. It's important to check each embassy's offerings.

Some...but NOT all... Thai Embassies and Consulates may offer the Non O for retirement. Be sure to check if the one near you does. Same for Thai Immigration Offices inside Thailand.

Some will process a conversion of a visa exempt on arrival or tourist visa into a Non O followed by the one year Extension of Stay .

We don't know what the future requirements to get a Non-immigration O visa will be after the lockdown is over. However, you CAN get that visa in your home country, *AND* you can also get that visa *INSIDE* Thailand :O, and then get an extension of stay based on being over 50.

You may also be able to get that visa in Laos/ Cambodia/ or Malaysia as well, but at this point, we don't know

You can find more information out about various types of "retirement visas" from this post, written by Tod Daniels:
