Hi All, I am a UK resident who is currently staying legally in Cyprus - UK passports holders can stay here for 90 days visa free. I intend to apply for a DTV and have been told by the UK consulate that I cannot apply to them as I must be in the UK. I believe the Rome embassy covers Cyprus but I am wondering whether anyone has experience of applying to them in my circumstances? What will I need to give them to help improve my chances of a smooth application approval process?

You are not staying legally in Cyprus, you are just a tourist there for 90 days. You would have stayed there legally if your country wouldn’t have chosen the Brexit😀

GrayWallaby8130 I am staying legally in Cyprus. Cypriot immigration law allows UK passport holders to stay visa free for 90 days and that's what I'm doing. And yeah, Brexshite was voted in by idiotic people - I was not one of them.

Not sure “staying legally in Cyprus” is the correct threshold, as you always need to be where you are legally. If you do not have a Cyprus Passport, you will need one of the following:

1. Residence Permit

2. Certificate of Residence

3. Other evidence that proves you are legally residing in Italy, Cyprus, Albania, San Marino

DTV_BegPecker lol fair enough! You have to be legal everywhere. I guess what I meant as I said in my comment that I'm currently in Cyprus as a UK passport holder you are allowed to stay here for 90 days. I have a passport stamp showing entry at the end of last month - would that suffice?

Several embassies require applicants to be residents in that country. For example the USA and China.

thank you for your response - not too sure why there are people trolling on a genuine post trying to get advice. I have seen people travel to other countries for their visa, you just have to be residing in the country that the embassy you apply to has jurisdiction over which is what I am doing. I was hoping to get experiences from others who'd also applied from Cyprus but looks like that won't happen here.

I don't agree. You can make a DTV application at an embassy of your choice which is what people do while travelling. It's how I got my DTV. Why does the OP have to prove residency in Cyprus? There's no rule that you have to apply from your home country only. It is up to the embassy to reject or approve an application.

As per my understanding, you should definitely be able to make an application at your preferred embassy while traveling. Just note that you would be required to stay at that location throughout the duration of your application process. When I applied at the embassy in Manila, Philippines, I was requested to provide my hotel stay details and I was also called for an interview to verify that I was actually staying in the Philippines...
