Looking for current info for some friends on French and Portuguese passports, want to stay longer in Thailand, on 30-day exemption now. Can they get a 30-day extension in Samui and then go to Malaysia and apply for a 60-day tourist Visa? Any advice or requirements as stamp runs out in a few days and immigration closed the 5th, so they need to plan if they need a border bounce, Penang trip, or just a hop to immigration in Samui!

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking current information regarding visa options for friends holding French and Portuguese passports who are currently in Thailand on a 30-day exemption. They are inquiring about the possibility of extending their stay for another 30 days in Samui and then traveling to Malaysia to apply for a 60-day tourist visa. They are concerned about their current visa expiring soon and are looking for advice on the best course of action – whether to do a border run, visit immigration in Samui, or travel to Penang.
