TLDR : Answer Summary
The possibility of transferring a retirement extension of stay to an employment extension in Thailand depends on several key factors: the type of visa your friend currently holds (e.g., Non-O or Non-OA), the specific immigration office handling the case, and whether both the friend and employer meet the necessary requirements set by that office. Without this detailed information, it's difficult to provide a definitive answer.

Sadly, I don't think we can help your friend without having more information.
1. What visa did your friend arrive on? If your friend arrived on a Non-O visa based on being over 50 or a Non-OA visa, I can not see a way for them to go to a Non-B/ One year extension of stay based on employment.
2. What immigration office is being used? Different immigration offices have different policies about getting in-country visas/ extension of stays.
