Hi all, has anyone had difficulties getting Thai health insurance for an over 50 1 year retirement visa, when in remission (20 + years) for cancer and what would you expect to pay🤔
Answer summary
The post raises concerns regarding the difficulties in obtaining Thai health insurance for individuals over 50 applying for a one-year retirement visa, particularly those with a history of cancer in remission. I have no evidence other than being in this group and reading posts since inception. I've observed that soft power seem to get more questions at immigration than digital nomads.

If you’re interested in applying for a DTV (Destination Thailand Visa), I’d be happy to help. 😊

I can assist with document preparation, application guidance, and answer any questions about the DTV process. Feel free to send me a message anytime.

I see everyone’s feedback here both serious sounds sarcastic thank you for it all. However, some people sit there from the LA consulate and mine is from there also actually by the way, and they did ask me for more documents at first after which I provided it was fine. And the reason of my original post questioning is because of what it said on Google AI

Based on the approval reports shared so far, the application location often seems to matter more than nationality alone. Two applicants with the same passport can have very different experiences depending on the embassy/consulate, supporting documents, and timing of the application. It would be interesting to see more data points before drawing any firm conclusions.

If you arrive at the airport, just tell Im form the US and have DTV.

a Car will pick you up, bring you to an Immigration booth where champagne is waiting, with some Thai snacks. While you relax your passport will be stamped, your suitcases collected and when all done, the car will bring you to a taxi stand for a free ride to your hotel or place to stay.

Accept the goodies bag with coupons for free hotels, drinks, food, Muay Thai training and many other things.

Your question can not be answered effectively as to if US passport holders and DTVs from Thai consulates in the US get preferential treatment. It would require the same person to have applied for their DTV in multiple countries and under different passport countries. And even then, you would need to hold All of the other factors constant, such as the port of entry and the immigration officer.

Nobody can tell you if they are getting preferential treatment unless they've also tried it a different way......

It's always best to apply for visa from your own country, people who apply from some other country come more under the radar

under the radar means "not noticed", it's from the practice of flying aircraft low to avoid radar detection. I think you mixed idioms, it could be either "on their radar" or "under the microscope".

Wow! Immigration Officers apparently go easy on USA issued DTVs. It's everyone else that needs to worry! An added dimension to the trolling from now on.

I don't know if US issued visas have a good reputation (probably they do), but they're not the sole case. Those from Korea and Japan are also in the top tier while the SEA neighboring countries, especially for soft power, tend to be more prone to "suspicion", when the holder isn't from those countries.

I wouldn't bet on anything you said. I got my DTV approved through the LA embassy in ~45 minutes. I don't know how or why that happened; maybe my application went to someone who didn't have much to do that day, and they like the way I submitted my paperwork with things highlighted and cover letters explaining what they were looking at? So I wouldn't say they vet the best. After all, I have never heard of a single person in the US being called in for an in-person interview. As for not being given any scrutiny when entering Thailand, again don't bet on it. If you show up looking like half a vagrant, I'm sure you will get some scrutiny even though you have a US passport. I think the key is too look like on of those "quality tourists" (whatever you take that to mean) they've been harping about lately.

A. Nony Mous Are the Consulates in the USA staffed by Thai MFA staff? The UK ones were outsourced to local lawyers etc before they closed them down.

A. Nony Mous I'll be applying to the LA consulate next year, and if my application were approved in even a few hours I think I'd faint from joy, even a few days and I'd be over the moon. :-) I also plan to be very thorough and clear with my documentation. If you don't mind can I ask some follow up questions? Did you apply for DTV and if so which variation? How many months of bank statements did you submit? It sounds like you submitted each document with it's own cover letter? When you say highlighted, you mean pointed out the important facts in each cover letter?

when I saw the email from them come to me so quickly my heart sank because I thought I had screwed up something so basic (name didn't match my passport or something else stupid) that is was being rejected right away!

I applied via soft power (6 months cooking at House of Taste Thai Cooking School. Note: A 9 month course is now the recommended minimum course length.). When I say highlighted, I mean both with color on the pdfs and in the cover letters. On the proof of location documents I highlighted my address to show they all matched, and in the cover letter I listed the documents I was giving them. For the financial means section, I highlighted my address again for emphasis, the date on the HYSA statements (I gave them 3 months), and the ending balance. In the cover letter I listed the statement months with their ending balance.

My thought in submitting the documents was to not leave it to the person looking over things to figure out what they were looking at.

I just you use other documents for proof of location. I used my driver's license, latest car lease invoice, and the proof of insurance card that I keep in my car.

A. Nony Mous Thanks! I'll be doing DTV workcation, but you're definitely my G.O.A.T. re. thorough clear documentation now. :-)I saved what you wrote. For proof of location I was thinking of just using my local WA driver's license. All my other docs (bank statements, passport) do have that same address too. What did you use for proof of location?

A. Nony Mous It's unlikely that the IOs at Thai airports know about the interview practices at individual embassies, so I wouldn't factor that into an answer... We can't really answer the OP's question about whether there's a preference for U.S. nationals unless we take an unscientific poll about immigration experiences. Perhaps the avoidance of in-person interviews has something to do with the size of the country, since each embassy covers at least 10 states. It'd be unfair to ask someone to spend hundreds in air fare for a visa application.

Definitely not true. True your passport is stronger than most as far as entering many countries visa free, but that's about it. US citizens are not that high on the pedestal, except when you walk around Nana or Soi Cowboy 🙄 From someone that lived in US for almost 30 yrs, with a USC spouse and USC children.

What he means is that the US is not issuing visas for Thailand. It’s a Thai embassy or consulate located in the US. The OP seems confused.

I'd say the opposite is true, The southeast Asian embassies scrutinize applications pretty thoroughly whereas Western nation embassies hand out to almost anybody with very little strictness in their requirements.

First of all, your visa is issued by a Thai embassy or consulate in the US. They may operate differently from others, but there is no evidence that they are better or stricter in any way (Malaysia, for example, is probably much stricter).

Secondly, immigration laws apply to everyone, regardless of nationality. Holding a US passport may result in less scrutiny compared to some more problematic countries, but that does not exempt you from immigration questions or checks.

No it’s up to the immigration officer you encounter on entry regardless of your passport nation. A red interpol notice is always acted on.
